Early one morning in April, some neighborhood kids woke me very early screaming about a really sick dog tied to the bumper of my truck.  I went outside and found this skin and bones dog tied to my truck with the kind of chain you'd use to tow a car!!!  The chain was so heavy she couldn't even lift her head up.  We finally got the chain off from around her neck and she collapsed to the ground and couldn't stand back up.  I carried her in the house and layed her down on the floor in my bedroom and she, again, collapsed.

"Momma" is a Border Collie and German Shepard mix, probably around 3 to 4 years old.  She weighed 17 pounds!!!!  I worked really hard trying to gain some weight on her and after a few days she started wobbling around the house.  I took her to the vet to have her checked out and was told that she was very malnurished and very sick because of it.  His suggestion was to try to get some weight on her and get her "better" because in her condition now it was hard to say whether any blood test results would be accurate (he couldn't even test fecal matter for worms or parasites because she didn't have any matter in her!!!!).

So I brought her home and made her comfortable and she did eat, but not a whole lot.  Surprisingly though, within 2 weeks she had put on over 20 pounds!!!  Then, a couple days later, she had puppies.  Momma had 7 absolutely beautiful, sweet little puppies (5 girls and 2 boys).

When the pups were 2 weeks old, Momma started getting really sick again and was down to 28 pounds so I took her back to the vet for the tests.  This time, he discovered that not only did she have hookworms, tape worms and a thyroid disorder--but she also had advanced heartworm.  The x-rays and other tests he did showed that she probably had these heartworms for at least 2 years, if not longer.  He suggested working hard to wheen the pups (who were only 17 days old at the time) and then have Momma put to sleep because she was obviously in so much pain.  So we took the medications for her diarhea, hook and tape worms and put her on some vitamins and a weight builder and brought her home.

The pups were all wheened successfully, received their vaccinations and are now, at 8 weeks old, in new homes.

Not quite three weeks ago, Momma started vomitting worms.  I took her back to the vet and indeed, it was time.  She needed to be put to sleep and put out of her missery.  So we went ahead and got her ready.  We all said our goodbyes and the doc injected her.  We waited for her to pass peacefully.

Twenty minutes later, she was wagging her tail and licking hands and pawing at the door to the office.  She was ready to go home.  Surprised and feeling horrible, the vet suggested we leave the room and he'd give her another injection.  Ten minutes later, he called me back.  There was Momma.....sitting on the floor, wagging her tail and happy to see me.  The vet assured me it was a good injection, that he had been using it the entire week with "success" and he didn't understand what the problem was.  We came to only one conclusion--Momma had a will to live.

She is still very sick, weighing only 28 pounds.  She is still very quiet.  She doesn't walk around very much.  Does not play but absolutely loves to be petted.  She's one of those dogs that will come to you and put her head under your hand so you pet her.  She's an absolute sweetheart and we love her to death!!!

Unfortunetly, heartworm treatment was estimated to me to be a minimum of $350, provided there are no complications with the "usual" medications given for treatment.  We have collected $50 already towards her treatment and I have applied for several grants to help pay the remaining costs.

Our best lead is a group out of California.  The problem though, is that they don't dispurse funds for treatment for animals that have not been spayed or neutered.  In Momma's condition, I cannot have her spayed at the time.  She must have a successful treatment before she can be healthy enough to be spayed.  If aprooved, this group will pay for her treatment after she receives it and after I have her spayed.

The vet, however, won't begin treatment until he receives atleast half the $350 up front and we still don't have these kinds of funds.  We are a private rescue group, running off of money from our own pockets and the few donations we receive for each adopted pet.  We have a website only because someone donated it to us and offers his time, free of charge, keeping it updated (and we are SOO greatful).

Please help us save Momma's life and all the lives of the future dogs that come to us!!!  You're help would be greatly appreciated!!!

UPDATE July 31 2006:  Adoption Palace Dogs has received a financial grant to help cover some of the cost of Momma Dog's heartworm treatment from www.uan.org (she has received a Lifeline grant).  Heartworm treatment for Momma will run upwards of $350 and we have only $200.  Momma received her first injection of Ivomectin on July 5th and is scheduled to receive her second and third injections August 7th and 8th.  Unfortunetly, the vet has decided until he receives the remaining balance for treatment, he is unable to continue with the medication.  She will need at least one more injection around August 23rd.  Please help us continue her treatment and help her become the happy and healthy dog she should be!  She is such a joyful and loving animal that it breaks our hearts to know we may not be able to save her.  Your donations will help Momma continue this life saving treatment and be on the road to a happy and full life!

Hello,

My name is Cheryl, I'm 45 yrs. old, an only child of two wonderful parents that just passed away.  I've been working continuously for the past 30 yrs., since I was in High School.  My Father passed away from lymphoma cancer and my Mother passed away from acute heart failure, acute renal failure, acute lung failure and her cancer had come back.  The day after my Mother's funeral, I got layed off work.

I went to doctor, was having some problems and was diaganosed with degenerative disk disease, in-operable, Heart Trouble, Cancer in my breast and adrenal gland, arthritus in my back, shoulder, neck, knee and wrist.  The Doctor said I was Disabled and need to apply for disability.  I have been in pretty bad shape since my parents passed away.  I really haven't had time to grieve either.

The Bills are astronomical.  And being layed off for the past 8 months, I have no money coming in.  I did manage to get a loan to pay off all the bills right after the funeral, but now am having difficulty finding a way to make my payments.

My mortgage, utilities and other bills are around $5,000 mo.  I had a little money in savings and have been living off that, but now I'm to the point that I'm just about out of money and scared of loosing the only house I have to live in.

With the fact that I'm now disabled and can't work, they told me to file for disability.  I'm in the process of doing that, but it can take up to 6 months for me to get disability if I can get it.  I don't want to loose my home.

I've never had to ask for help, but am finding myself in Desperate need of Help, Financially.  I've lost my only parents, no family left, all passed away, I'm a single, white female just trying to make it on my own.

If there is anyone out there that could help me, I sure would appreciate it very much.  I need financial help.  It would be wonderful to pay off all my bills and have some extra money to live on.

And now being treated with disability, not able to work, it really scares me.  I'm also checked for cancer, heart failure and diabities regularly because of family history.  I have a lump in my left breast and have had left adrenal gland biopsy.  I also have a history of severe panic attacks and some heart trouble.  I'm just scared.  I'm going through too much right now with everything.  I can't sleep at night with worry.  I miss my parents very much and am worried about my health.  I'm just 45 yrs. old.

Is there anyone out there that can help me?  I would appreciate it greatly.  I've been through an awful lot in the past 8 months and I need help, financially.

Please, someone, I'm reaching out for help.  It's very hard for me to ask for help, but I really need it.

Thank you to anyone that can help me.

Hello my name is Jessica and I am a an undergrad at the Universuty of Alabama and will graduate in May 2007. I have been accepted to the University's graduate program for the fall and am very excited, but also distressed. After I graduate I will have no financial assistance from my parents and will have to start working more hours to support myself. I just recently joined this and really do not know what it is all about but I need some extra financial assitance to make my way through the next two years of grad school. After that I will be able to get a good job to support myself and pay off all of my student loans. The reason I cannot get a good job after I get my undergraduate degree is because one has to have a masters to practice as a speech-language pathologist. I hope I can find the things I am looking for through this, but if not I will do whatever I can to make it through grad school and make some money!!!

I'm a 42 year old single female looking for help in getting dental work done. As a single mother of two, I have worked very hard to raise my children without the help of their father. Providing full support for my children, I have had to put my own health needs last. Having had no dental insurance for most of my life, I am now in serious need of assistance to regain my smile and my health. I have been told that it would be best for me to have all of my teeth extracted and dentures put in. While this is devastating news to me, it seems to be the only route to go at this point. Due to the severity of my dental condition, I have been told by three different dentists that oral surgery would be best since I have a lot of teeth that have broken off at the gumline. I am hoping to find someone in my area that would be willing to donate their services for free to help me. I can no longer chew most foods as I have lost all of my back teeth. I suffer from nearly continuous infections in my mouth and never feel good, or healthy anymore. This problem is not only ruining my health, but has taken away all of my self esteem. I love to laugh and smile and I normally work out in the public. For the past three years, I have stayed hidden away in my home, contracting work so that I do not have to be seen. Not only have I taken a serious pay cut, but I feel shut off from the rest of the world. I don't even like to have to go shopping for food, and when I do have to go, I try not to make eye contact with anyone. If anyone out there can help me, PLEASE let me know. I don't know where else to turn and I am so very depressed and miserable. My youngest child graduates from high school next year and it is my dream to be able to attend and feel that I can openly smile and celebrate this wonderful time. I don't want to spend the rest of my life suffering in pain and hiding from the world. PLEASE HELP!

Single Parent needs Aid for repairing house

My name is Michele Wells. I am attending a community college to obtain my Associate Degree in Computerized Information Technology. I am a part-time student.
When I decided to purchase my home, my main concern was keeping my children out of public housing. I had no clue it would be this hard to maintain it. I am now considering selling my home and finding somewhere to rent because I can not afford to maintain my home.
I have checked into the Weatherization Program, USDA Rural Development, Community Grants, Community Action Agency, searched the internet for grant money, and called several offices in Montgomery only to come up empty handed. All of these programs are for low-income, disabled senior citizens. There seems to be no help available for people like me who don't depend on the government totally to survive.
My question is: Are there any grants to help single working parents who can afford a house payment but can not afford the repair and maintenance on the home?

Sincere Thanks,
Michele Wells

Bambi and her pups!

This is Bambi, the newest addition to Adoption Palace (Big) Dog Rescue.  Bambi was rescued on July 26th from our local Animal Shelter where she, and her unborn pups, were scheduled for destruction due to lack of space and finances.

Bambi is one of the most incredible dogs we have ever had!!!  Fullly housebroke, crate trained, leash trained, non-food aggressive, gets along well with other dogs, cats, kids and people.  She LOVES riding in the car, with her cute little head hanging out the window through the entire drive (even doing 60mph down the interstate).  She loves her toys, could play fetch and "hide and sniff" for hours.  She spends a lot of time in the pool splashing around.  Bambi is just an absolute joy to have around.

We expected her to have her pups over the last weekend of July but it seems she's holding out just a bit longer.  She and her pups will be ready for their new homes by the end of September or early October.

Bambi appears to be a possible Beagle and Shepard mix, with maybe just a slight gene or two of Chow or Spitz.  She's not a very large dog, topping off at 35 lbs.  She stands about calf-high to most adult people.

She's full of love and ready to find her best and forever friend!!!

Bella, a 14 week old female Boxer (disturbing picture)

Such a tragic story of undoubtedly avoidable pain and agony.  Bella's story is so sad and heartbreaking.  Yet, it's just another condition we see all too often.

This is Bella, a 14 week old Boxer mix puppy.  She was found by an off-duty local police officer and delivered here to us as Adoption Palace.  The officer had anger and disapointment in his voice when he dropped her off late one evening only a week ago.  Shaking his head, repeating over and over again, "how absolutely disgusting" as we stood together watching her inhale a small bowl of food in a matter of seconds.

Every bone in poor Bella's body was all too visable.  The skin on her front and back legs seemed almost "sucked in" around the bones; what little muscle she had was clearly noticeable.  Her gums were almost pure white from dehydration.  She was so weak and malnurished, walking was a difficult action.

It has been just over one week now and Bella has put on 8 pounds.  She is very loving and extremely playful.  She is everything a puppy her age should be.  She has been cleared of any medical illness.  Her only problem was someone trying to starve her to death.

It's cases such as Bella's that your help is needed and greatly appreciated.  Please find it in your hearts to help save the next "Bella" that comes through our doors.

Hi. My name is Nicole, and that beautiful little girl in my picture is my daughter who is five years old. I'm not real sure what to say, so I'm just gonna shoot straight. I am a single mom. MY daughter has no father as he had lost his parental rights Many years ago. Everything was going wonderful for us until about 2 months ago, and which point I became ill with broncitius and walking phnuemonia. I lost my job because I was out so many days. In Alabama they can let you go for any reason they see fit, and they saw fit to let me go cause of Illness.

I had started another job as an receptionist, but it has been part time. I am currently looking for a full time job, but things are going down hill really fast for us. Christmas is coming up, which I do have presents for her now thanks to toys for tots, but there is still an issue. I am 2 months behind on my car payments, and if they take my car I will have no way of going to work. I live in a very small country area. There is no public transit not even cabs (like I could afford that). I guess what I am asking is.... IF there is anyone who knows where I can go to get some help, please let me know. I feel all alone in this, and I feel like I am losing everything.

Single mother in need of help

I live in Alabama and have not been able to find a job. My rent is only $40 and my car payment is $160 a month. Without a car I can not find a job and without a home I have no place to sleep with my child. Everyone I know lives 3 hours away and I am afraid I am going to lose everything including my daughter. If you can help me please do! I am not sure how I am going to make it, and anything would be appreciated.

Peanut, a 10 week old mix breed puppy (disturbing pictures)

In 5 years of working rescue, I'd have to say that this was the most difficult case we'd ever gone through.  Such a tearful experience for everyone involved.  This is Peanut's story.

It was an absolutely HOT and out of this world miserable day in late May when an off-duty Animal Control Officer knocked on my door; holding a small puppy in her arms.  She brought him in the house and set him down on the table so I could look at him.  She pulled her arms out from underneath him........

And he collapsed.

We filled a bowl with water and put it down by him.  He didn't even have the strength to lift his head let alone walk the 2 inches to the bowl and get a badly needed drink.  He just layed there, dry tongue hanging from his pure white mouth.

I put 5 cc's of water in a small dropper and slowly disbursed it in his mouth.  He welcomed the taste of fresh water.  Seconds later, he vomitted the water back up.  Even water to this poor baby was an alien substance to his body; a substance he hadn't received in so long that his body wasn't able to tolerate it.

From that point on it was every hour that I would put 2 cc's of room-temperature water directly into his mouth.  After 3 days he was hydrated enough to give him the strength to stand up and take what was probably his first bite of food since whelping.  Within two weeks, he had put on 11 pounds and was wrestling with his toys.

Shortly after regaining his strength and adding the weight, poor Peanut was diagnosed with "full body" Demodectic Mange, Ringworm and a Staph Infection.  He immediately went on antibiotics, ivomectin treatments, sulfur and iodine dips and various other body creams.  Within days of his first treatment, he became lethargic and listless.  His skin was dry and flakey and obviously very painful and caused missery beyond what words could describe.

A second trip to the Vet, and a second inital plan for treatment began.  Days later, he had a minor seizure and landed himself in a "24 hour" coma.

Running out of options, we again tried antibiotics, a fungal spray and a homeopathic remedy for the mange.  Though his body tolerated this form of treatment, his condition did not improve.

Walking to the truck, with his tail wagging behind him as he tried playfully attacking the Animal Control Officer's feet and wrestling with the leash, Peanut had no idea what layed ahead of him.

With tears in our eyes at what felt like a failed attempt to save a life, we watched Peanut slowly pass away as the injection filled his body and stopped his tiny little heart.

There was nothing more we could do to help Peanut.  Had his owners cared for him properly in the beginning, he could have had a long and happy life.  And though we know he had 2 of the most incredible and happiest months of his short life, it still didn't seem fair.

Your donations can help the next Peanut that desperately needs the love and care we can offer.

My mother and I share a house and are full time college students.  Trust me, if it were not for financial aid, we wouldn't be in college at all.  In the last two months, there has not been any work to do at our part time jobs, so we have no income.  We have bills that are coming due and nothing with which to pay them.  Our house needs a new roof as well as minor plumbing and electrical work.  The receptacle for our stove is not usable because it overheats and melts the plug, so right now, we are cooking on a two burner hot plate and using a toaster oven.  Our bathtub faucet leaks water like crazy (from the hot water side), and with nothing to repair it with, we turned off the hot water and now heat water on our two burner hot plate.

We've looked at job listings in the newspaper and online and are trying to find some way to make ends meet.  So far, we haven't found anything that will allow the flexibility our college schedule needs.  If we don't keep our grades up, we lose financing for college.

We know GOD is able and works in mysterious ways ~ often through the hands of Good Samaritans.  If you would like to help a Christian family pay their bills and make repairs to their home, please contact me.  Thank you in advance and may GOD bless you richly.

****** Update 11/26/06 ******

Everything is basically the same.  Still no work, no income, and needing help.  Our employer does not forsee any work for us in the month of December.  I've applied for a job as a night stocker at Lowe's and I've also picked up an application from a local retail store.  I'm going to apply at Wal-Mart as well.  We've checked with our local Community Action Agency about help with our heating, but they don't have any funds available at this time.  I will continue to check with them about assistance.  I'm believing something will come through...I have faith.  I would like to be able to buy a few Christmas gifts, but finances do not allow that at this time.

Someday, I'd love to have enough money to be here offering help to others instead of asking for it.  If I had the money, I'd help everyone I could.  I know there are many who are in worse circumstances...at least I do have a roof over my head, food to eat (through food stamps), and clothes to wear.  Many don't have that...I'd love to be able to help them and many others.  Mark my words...one day I will.

** Update 12/20/06 **

We spoke with our employer a few weeks ago -- still no work and there will not be any more work for us to do with this company.  My mother and I both have applied at Lowes and she has tried to get on a list to take the civil service exam for the post office in our area.  I spoke with a DHR representative to find out who I needed to contact about employment there -- I have to take an exam and be placed in a pool of applicants.  I will be doing this ASAP.  There are a few restaurants in our area that may be hiring.  A new one will have their grand opening in January -- so we will both apply there.

Thank GOD that we are eligible for food stamps and are receiving those...if not, we'd be pretty hungry.  We are so grateful for what we have.

I do ask that even if you cannot afford to help us in a monetary way, please, please remember us in your prayers.

Thanks so much for reading and may GOD bless you.

Joey; a silver tiger striped (tabby) cat.

This is Joey!  Joey has been with us for quite some time.  Unfortunetly, he has been unable to find the perfect and stable home that he needs.

Joey is approximately 1 1/2 years old and is a sliver tiger striped (tabby) cat.  He was found in the barn of a local farm and brought to us for assistance with an eye infection.  He was treated for an upper respiratory infection and recovered quickly.  He was adopted following his recovery into a beautiful farm home where he had free run of the barn, house and open fields!  It was a match made in heaven!

Unfortunetly, the family that adopted Joey went through some family emergencies including hospital stays and bankruptcy.  It was hard for the family to do but for the sake of keeping him cared for and healthy, they returned him to us right before Thanksgiving.

Joey started getting very ill in March of this year.  We took him to our vet who ran numerous tests on him only to find that, as far as test results showed, there was nothing wrong with him.  In only a matter of weeks, Joey had lost 8 lbs and his skin and coat condition continued to worsen.  But despite the obvioussness of his being ill, test results continue to come back negative for ailments.

Like many of our other cats and dogs, continued medical care and possible treatment are neccessary to ensure a happy and healthy life.  We have exhausted all available funds to Joey and he too could use your help!

Please open your hearts to this beautiful little boy and offer him what he otherwise may not receive.

I dont make that much a year less than 25,000  a year trying to support a wife, three children and pay rent on top of that is not easy at all, I found  a house my wife and i have been trying to buy its an older home built in 1979 for us its new and i did get approved for the house but i need help with the down payment i got enough to start but i need about 5,000 to put enough down to get the house. i dont know how i could repay you or anyone, but i could tell you this if you we ever in need of anything and i know that you have helped me i would do what i could to make your life better just as you have mine. i hate to have to ask but life is not fair either, if you dont play the game of life then life will leave you behind. right now the house we are renting is full of mold the children have been sick and my wife and i cant seem to get rid of the sinus problems just  when we think we are getting better it comes back, i have talked with the care taker of the place and they say its just a moisture problem, i just know different, right now we just have to live here until we can get a better place, i hope things work out soon and we can get back on our feet, i have so much going on right now that it would take me all day to explain, like my daughter living in michigan, my father inlaw who had a stroke and lives with us too, my divorce and bankruptcy, the hurricane that cause a forclosure on our home last year, its just to much, its overwhelming i just need a little help. if you could do anything please email me at mikeandduffie@gulftel.com  thanks again mike . I have been on this site for a while and i knew this was  fraud.

I am a mother of six kids and a husband,my husband is a very hard working man.And dose what ever he can for are family. But we never seem to be able to get anywhere in life,we need help to find are family a home we can call our own.We are the type people who just needs somebody to give us a chance,we are hopeing somebody who reads this maybe has a house somewhere that maybe needs alot of work done to it.And would be willing to let us fix it up and maybe pay a small amount for it so it would be are home one day.Make a payment once a month but just between us and not the banks and down payments and all that other stuff that makes it were I can not have a home for my family we could call our own.If not a house maybe an acre of land that needs to be cleaned up and nobody is ever gonna use it for anything, that I could put a home on but it would be my familys so we would know that is where we are gonna be.We are a very good family and we do not mind paying for what we get,so like on the acre of land we could make a few small payments so it would not be like just a hand out.We just need somebody somewhere to give us a helping hand and a chance.
NEED HELP FOR CHRISTMAS

I have two boys ( age 7 and 9 ), my 7 yr old has epilepsy and my 9 yr old has adhd. My (9yr old) has been having emotional problems due to me taking him off the adhd medication, big mistake, but he was taking 9 different pills daily, because he has really bad allergies and asthma. I felt like at the age of nine he shouldn't be on so many meds. Well he really does need the adhd meds after all. We have an appointment to get him started back on them next week.  But due to all the stress this has cause  my son (7yr old) had multiple seizures Sunday. After which my husband left us because of their health problems.  Said he can't deal with having what he called broken children. They aren't broken he is. He left us penniless. I got a job but it barely pays the past due bills. Not even sure if I can fill the gas tank for heat once the propane runs out. If anyone can help us I will repay in February with my tax refund. You don't have to send money. But  if possible, some gifts for the boys would be great. and maybe a tree. I don't have either. Please help. pray for us GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!

$1.00 Dollar From Everyone Can Help Stop Mortgage Foreclosure

Family of 4 all disabled:  Father (lung disease), Mother (cancer), daughter (congenital heart defects) and son (Crohn's Disease).  We are to go to court on Friday, 3/28/2007 for them to decide if we can keep our home and how much it will cost us to keep our home.  We have lived here 29 years and have no where else to go.  We do not have alot of money due to everyone's disabilities.  If you could just pledge just $1.00, it would be greatly appreciated.  If you know an attorney who might be able to help us, that information would be greatly appreciated also.
