Hanging on by a thread

The past month has hit my husband and I reaaly hard.  It seems that everything is going wrong and I don't know why.  First, my dog got sick and needed $450 of emergency care to save her life (first week of January).  Shortly thereafter, my husband lost his job.  I am a student trying to finish my degree to become a teacher.  While I do carry a part time job, I do not make enough to support the two of us.  Quiting school would mean giving up my dreams and I have worked so hard to achieve them.  But last week, we were in a car accident that totaled our only car.  Because we only could afford liability, the insurance is not going to cover our loss.  We are now stuck with a $8000 debt and no car.  Please, I don't know what to do.  Someone please help us.

A.F.A.C.T. Artist Fighting AIDS/HIV Creatively Through The Arts was Established in 1995, and gained exemption status January 6, 2003 under section 501c3. As a non-profit organization with an emphasis on the African American Community, we are dedicated to the promotion of increasing awareness and decreasing infections of HIV/AIDS through through theatrical and mass media art.  Artists who participate in the A.F.A.C.T. three tier program receive artist development support, and gainful employment while teaching through edutainment.

A.F.A.C.T. is a very unique organization, in that it was created by a group of socially conscious artists whose contemporary social education affords them the understanding that is required to attack AIDS/HIV at it's very core. We are sisters and brothers in the struggle to save ourselves. Demographically we are the people at risk for AIDS. We envision an Outreach Program that extends through Public Service Advertising targeting the largest population of those at risk for HIV/AIDS, Black Women.

Traditional methods of reaching the African American Community are lost because people creating the campaigns to do not represent the people that thay are intended for. In fact large organizations are stigmatized in Black Communities because of the corrupt history with regard to African American medical patients. Poverty, Fear of Rejection and Desire for Acceptance are the controlling factors in the plight of African American health. But while this is understood by researchers, they simply spin numbers that do not translate into urban common sense. At A.F.A.C.T. we understand that the quickest way to the mind is through the soul. The Artists associated with A.F.A.C.T. create innovative programming, that speaks in a language that is familiar to its target audience. Through music, dance, theater and literature laced with stimulating imagery, we have devised a program with great promise.

AFACT was created as a three tier program:

1. To create artistic works that promote improved sexual relations with a focus on safe sex practices, communication between couples and abstinence.

2. To communicate to urban target audience through Literature, Music and Dance. Theatrical performances, television and radio have been a major source of outreach for AFACT and its mission since 1995. AFACT artist have been creating works of art to sell in order to afford the promotion of our cause, safe sex and sexual practices.

3. To recruit, train and employ artist who share our commitment to the preservation of sexual health. To provide the participating artist with an in house support system and vehicle for development and growth, while giving back to the community.

Greetings,

Wow! It's been awhile since I have been here. The site looks great! I like the new format. I will have to get re-acquainted with it.

So I have not been here for about a year. Time flys when there is lot's going on in one's life. Still dealing with my health. Last couple of month's it has been my teeth.

Dentures are a-comin soon. And today I just found another part of the tooth that was pulled comming up through the gum. I have ask God to heal me. And I say my "Thank You God for my healing". every day. So hey, it may be getting my third set of teeth. Now, that would be a hoot!

So, I made it back to San Deigo, CA. I love that place. I started to help my friends out there with house sitting. So I am now know as "The Gyspy House Attendant". It is the perfect job for me with all my disabilities.

Another thing I have been researching is the type of vehicle that would sote my needs, both everyday and the disabilities. I am now looking for the old JEEP GRAND WAGONEERS! It is low to the ground so I can get in and out of it and I can put the back seat down when I need to rest. Plus I can haul my little "Gypsy Vardo Wagon" behind it. So that is my next vehicle. Keep a look out and let me know if there is one in your neck of the woods.

Speaking of woods, I am back in Pennsylvania. My 88yr old Aunt called me to come back and help her out. She is having some major health issues herself. So I am back in the mountains of the Appalachians. It is nice now because of the Spring. However, those damp cool nights are killing my back and joints.

So I am back and will promise to check in at least once a week.

Blessing to you all and may all your dreams come true.

LABikermamma.

UPDATE MAY 2007

Ok, well that little toyota truck I got has some major problems. So I cleaned it up and have it up for sale for $835. No sooner did I put the ad in the paper an old mechanic friend found a working truck that I can get in June. See how GOD works Miracles. You have to let go of all your negitive energies.

In the meantime, I am doing little house projects for my 87yr old aunt. I did the trim in the bathroom and I want to paint my room. I put some tomato plants in the garden. So once I leave to go back west, everything will be done for her.

I guess I am on a spring cleaning kick. Not only for my life but my spiritual life as well.
It feels pretty good to let go of all your own shit.

My new saying is: "Life is Good!".

*****
Update: April 11, 2007.
Ok I am over the tools being stolen.  Now working on getting the truck fixed. Getting the AD space sold on the truck and I am out of PA for good. They do every thing backwards here and I am finding out about "legalized extortion" when it comes to trying to registrar the title of a truck. What a racket.  I know enough bitching but I got to tell you whenever you are trying to move forward and you have everyone blocking you, instead of giving you a hand up...get's depressing. And more snow.....ugly. So AD Space anyone?

Thanks.

Update: 04/10/2007.
well so much for thinking positive! I just got robbed of all my tools to fix up the truck.
so now I have a truck with no tools.  At least I did not get my house ransacked like my neighbor did. They got the worst of it.  So there goes 8k out the window.
I just need the Universe and God to give me a leg up everyonce in awhile instead of chopping me off at the knees.
LABikermamma

Update: 04/08/2007.

Just want to wish every one miracles for this blessed day of giving thanks.
May all your dreams come true. My dream is for a truck to make it back
home to san diego,ca from PA.( I got the truck april 2007). Thank you.
Please read my bio(Post#160-onFree money site)
My journey out of  suffering and into another chapter of my new and different life.

In appreciation to all,
LABikermamma

ps:With a "Little help from my Friends". I am now looking for businesses to ADvertise
on the sides of my truck. Websites/800# etc. I will be traveling 2185 miles from PA to San Diego, CA at the end of June 2007. I will charge a buck a mile..That is a dollar a mile.
It will be all Freeway/Highway driving. Stops at Truck Stops and Casinos. I will leave the ad on the truck for one month and I will even email you a picture. Cheapest BillBoard Advertisement there is! What do you think of that idea?

Resident Apartment Manager Law in California

The McMillan Law Firm, A.P.C., is not advising you or giving you specific legal advice with this web site. We only give legal advice to those clients who have retained the firm, so if you need further assistance, please contact our office immediately. Please note that the information contained on this web site is specifically for CALIFORNIA. Again, the following is simply an overview of California laws as applied to Resident Apartment Managers.

Employment at will

Unless the employee is working under a contract guaranteeing employment for a specified amount of time, the employer/employee relationship is considered at-will, and employers can fire the employee for any reason, except the "wrong reason." The "wrong reason" usually is limited to whistle-blowing (example: reporting illegal activities) or because of their race, sex, national origin or disability. The employer is free to fire the employee for almost all other reasons. You should consult an employment law attorney if you have been terminated and feel it was for the "wrong reason."

Of course, you can contract around the "at-will" relationship by entering into an employment contract for a specified term (i.e. a contract for one-year of employment). Then, if you are terminated before the term expires, the employer may be in breach of contract. However, many employers are hesitant to enter into such contracts because they are giving up their right to terminate the employment relationship.

Minimum Wage for Resident Apartment Managers

Apartment owners are required by the California Code of Regulations to have a "resident apartment manager" or some other responsible person, to reside upon the premises and manage every apartment house that has over 16 units.

Resident Apartment Managers must be paid in accordance to minimum wage laws. That is, the Resident Apartment Manager must be paid at least $6.75 for every hour worked. The Industrial Welfare Commission defines "hours worked" as "the time during which an employee is subject to the control of an employer, and includes all the time the employee is suffered or permitted to work." (Wage Order No. 5 2(h).)

Furthermore, California case law has held that "suffer or permit" means all work that the employer knew or should have known about; in fact, the Supreme Court even included "work such as unauthorized overtime, which the employer has not requested or required." (Morillion v. Royal Packing Co.) Be careful, however, the court will not allow a person to "work behind the back" of an apartment owner hoping to cash in later. (Id.)

The employer and employee cannot contract to pay less than minimum wage. (Labor Code 1194(a).) Any such agreement is void, and the employer is in violation of the Labor Code. Before excepting a salary, find out how many hours you are expected to work, then apply that to the formulas provided in the next section.

Being Paid on Salary

The salary of a non-exempt employee is for 40 hours of work (or less) per week because, and as mandated by Wage Order No. 5 3 (A)(1)(c), the hourly rate of a non-exempt employee is computed as one-fortieth of the employee's weekly salary. Therefore, your hourly rate can be computed with the following formulas (note, hours worked cannot exceeded 40, if you work over 40 hours per week, all hours over 40 must be compensated with overtime wages):

If you are paid on a monthly salary: (monthly salary) / [4.3 x (hours worked)] = (hourly salary).
If you are paid on a bi-monthly salary: (bi-monthly salary)/[2.15 x (hours worked)] = (hourly salary).
If you are paid weekly: (weekly salary)/(hours worked) = (hourly salary)
If your hourly salary is below $6.75, you should consult an employment attorney.

Keeping track of hours worked

Wage and hour regulations contain numerous record-keeping requirements for employers. And, employers, have a statutory duty to comply with the regulations set forth in Labor Code 226, 1174, 1174.5, and Wage Order No. 5 7(a), all which mandate the employer keep accurate records, including the number of hours worked, rate of pay for each hour, and total wages owed. Failure to record hours alone is a criminal offense. (Labor Code 215.)

All resident apartment managers should keep an accurate record of their hours worked. Because the employer has the affirmative duty to keep track of all hours worked by employees, in the event of a dispute, the employee may reconstruct their hours by means of a "just and reasonable" inference. When the employer's records are inaccurate or inadequate, an employee will have carried the burden of proof in establishing a violation of state minimum wage and overtime laws if: (1) the employee proves they performed work for which they were improperly compensated and (2) if the employee produces sufficient evidence to show the amount and extent of that work as a matter of "just and reasonable inference." (Hernandez v. Mendoza) The more evidence you have of hours worked, the more likely it is to recover under minimum wage and overtime laws. Thus, resident apartment managers should keep a daily log of duties performed and the time it took to perform them.

"Rent Free" Apartment as Compensation

Most managers' apartments are considered part of their compensation package. Although this is common practice, it is hardly ever executed legally. There is a strong public policy against taking advantage of an employee in regard to living arrangement. For that reason, the employer must follow the law to the letter.

The employer may deduct up to 2/3 of the market rental value of the manager's apartment (but not more than $381.20 for a single manager and $563.90 for a couple) against their obligation to pay the manager minimum wage. (Wage Order No. 5 10(c)

Living accommodations can only count towards minimum wage if there is a "voluntary written agreement" that "explicitly references that such credits are being applied toward the minimum wage obligation of the employer." (Brock v. Carrion) Therefor, the agreement must be (1) in writing, (2) specifically state how much money is to be credited, (3) cannot be more than $381.20 for a single manager and $563.90 for a couple, and (4) must specifically say the credit is "being applied toward minimum wage." Failure to follow any steps will void the agreement.

Wage Order No. 5, including the requirement of a "voluntary written agreement," was clearly intended to "prevent employers from circumventing the state's minimum wage requirements." (Id.) Thus, "each provision places strict limits on an employer's ability to credit lodging against the minimum wage." (Id.) Therefore, without a valid "voluntary written agreement" the employer "cannot obtain an offset against the plaintiffs potential damages under 10(C) of Wage Order No. 5."(Id.) In other words, the apartment is now truly free without any off set against wages.

Resident Apartment Managers and Overtime

"The employment of any employee for longer hours than those fixed by the order or under conditions of labor prohibited by the order is unlawful." (Labor Code 1198.) The Industrial Welfare Commission mandates a premium for overtime wages at one and one-half time the regular rate of pay for every hour over eight-hours worked in a single day, and all hours over forty worked in a week. (Wage Order No. 5 3.) Also, every hour worked on the seventh-consecutive day shall be paid at the one and one-half pay rate. (Id.)

The overtime rate of a non-exempt employee is computed as one-and a half time the employee's hourly rate (click here if you are paid per week, bi-monthly, or monthly). Therefore, your overtime rate can be computed with the following formula (Note, your hourly salary must be greater than $6.75, if it is less, use $6.75)

1.5 x (hourly rate) = overtime rate
(overtime rate) x (hours worked over 40) = (overtime owed)

If you work over forty-hours a week, you must be compensated your at your overtime rate. Any agreement to do otherwise is contrary to Labor Code section 1194(a) and is not valid. Furthermore, the Defendants are barred from using an "averaging method" to apply money paid to overtime owed. (Armenta v. Osmose, Inc.) "California's labor statutes reflect a strong public policy in favor of full payment of wages for all hours worked." (Id.) Therefore, an employer cannot pay an employer with a salary that compensates more than minimum wage and expect the amount paid over minimum wage to make up for prior or future overtime compensation earned.

Conclusion

If your employer is in violation of any of the previous sections, seek counsel from an employment law attorney. Your boss cannot fire you for doing so. If you are looking for a job as a resident apartment manager, keep these rights a protections in mind.

Dear: Family and Friends

The holiday season is fast approaching. It is one of my favorite times of the year and I look forward to sharing the (Christmas/Kwanza/Hanukkah/etc.) with you and the rest of my family and friends. Everybody is busily working on their wish list for holiday gifts and I've been thinking about mine, too.

You know that I had a stroke . I don't talk about it a lot for a number of reasons. I don't want people feeling sorry for me, besides, talking about illness makes some people uncomfortable and sometimes, it just makes me sad. I want to be around for a long time and celebrate many more holidays with the people I love. That is more likely to happen if we only could find a cure for strokes. Fortunately, god has given me the gift to raise money toward this effort. I am very excited about this effort it means so much to me personally as well as help for my rehabilitation

So, instead of buying a present for Strangers set aside a little for me this year, I hope you will consider making a contribution to my Fund for the stroke. With a donation to my website: http://www.geocities.com/stroke_vic/ihadastroke.html?1159927345906

Your Donation would mean the world to me.

No gift is too small and could help to save a life.

I am currently struggling my way through life, working full time to pay current bills and trying to put myself through college. When i was about four years old my mother died and since my father was not involved in my life i was orphaned then adopted by a guardian. Throughout my life i have had to overcome this obstacle. I still can remember my birth mother and how she used to sing me to sleep every night before her passing and carry this through my life everyday and think about her and what she would want me to do with my life if she where alive today. I want to go to college with every fiber of my being and I strongly believe that with her memory in hand i can achieve my goals and become a successful and vital person in the world. I struggled through High School when i was finding myself and discovering my past because of my mothers death but with my dreams falling further away with every failure i came across, my drive became so intense to make my passions become a reality in going to college and i managed to succeed at school and in my life. I really need help making my dreams become a reality so i can become a teacher and have a succesful life but without the proper fundings, i fear i will not be able to accomplish such goals and will be stuck working a minimum wage job the rest of my life.

Help me

I don't know if this will help me but here goes. I have been going though a bad Divorce, and got hit with State and Federal Taxes for the last two years due to the Divorce, and it has cost me a lot of money in Legal fees. I know that this happens to lot of others out there, and not just me. I have a full time job, but what I earn doesn't even come close to my legal fees and other bills I have. I rent a two bed room duplex for my 3 1/2 year old Daughter and my self. Now I'm worry about being out on the street soon, if  I do not get some help soon. I have applied for other help though Local and State Organization, but this is a slow process and it seems that you have to be already out on the street or very closes to it. Now the real concern for all this is, back last February I took my little girl to the Doctor for a medical problem which is still on going today, and that lead us to have a C/T Scan for the first problem, and during that scan they found a lump in her brain that we did not know was their, then a second C/T Scan, and two MRI  to determine what to do about the marble size lump in Her Brain. She is also going to have surgery for the first problem, and now it is getting worst  also. What I need is Money to pay the Bills to keep the roof over are heads so I will be able to deal with Her Problem. So all I can do now is to pray and hope for a good out come for her, and try to keep thing together the best I can. Thank you for reading this, and listening . Sincerely Mike

The Person:
I'm not really sure what to put here. I guess, well, I should start by saying I'm a young 22 year old. I grew up with next to nothing, but I had a wonderful mother who loved her children enough to raise them right. I'm thankful for all of the things God has given me in life and I always hope for the best in situations. I'm loyal, caring, and honest. I'm not really a typical 22 year old. Most of my life is spent working, trying to pay the bills, and worrying about my hubby who is in the army. If I ever get any free time, I like to spend it reading a book or playing a video game. I also enjoy anime and roleplaying games. My second job is working for the local video game store. It would be my dream job, if only it paid more than minimum wage! I  guess you could say I was pretty nerdy! But I'm proud of who I am. A lot of people tell me I don't look like the type that would be into all of those things, but I assure you, I'm a legitimate dork.
I look forward to meeting others who have similar interest. I do not judge, as I do not like to be judged. I accept everyone. I hope others will accept me.

The Problem:
As far as my situation, as I've stated before I've been having a rough time keeping up with the bills due to my man being gone. I've got a 14,000 dollar loan which needs to be paid back and money has just been really tight since he left. I'm not asking for someone to pay the loan for me, but I am asking for a little help....Donations in any amount. I realize that's a lot to ask since it isn't easy to trust people, especially people online, these days. I figured I would try anyway and hope that there are people out there generous and caring enough to help, as I would do for someone in need. If you can help me, feel free to message me (or even if you would just like to talk and be friends!).

I've got a donation bin set up on paypal at the moment, and my email address is a confirmed one for anyone thinking I'm trying to scam someone out of money. I'm not. If you'd like to make a donation, my e-mail on paypal is ami_nugent@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance to anyone willing to help or with advice!

For Others:
For those seeking money themselves. I haven't had much luck with this, but there is a website that will pay you .02 to just read advertisements online. This can be a lengthy and tedious project (one I don't particularly have time for, since I work), but it may help someone who's looking to make a little extra pocket change or something. Like I said, I haven't had luck... but for anyone who is maybe paralyzed or has the free time, it could help slightly.

For those who need help with prescriptions. There is a wonderful site that offers 3-month supplies of (mostly generic) common presciptions for costs as low as 20 dollars, up to $40. It does ask that you meet the criteria for the program (information about that is on the website). This has been great for my "controlled substance" medications in the past. No tax forms are required and the application is very simple and straight-forward.

Looking for free stuff?? Try craigslist in your state. You can find lots of helpful stuff here. From free items, to trade/barter, and employment. It's a very useful tool.

Though I am unable to give out money currently, I would love to help others in any way I can. If you need someone to talk to, advice, a friend. I'd love to donate clothing and other items to families in need. I've done the "Goodwill" thing before, but I always had an issue with donating my stuff to a company which profits from it! I would rather know that my items are going to someone who truly needs it, who doesn't have to pay. Not that Goodwill is a bad thing, I would just rather help an individual rather than a corperation.

This August 2006 moving thinking I got a hernia I rush to Emergency to find out: ovarian cancer, full on surgery, stageIIIc, but I have heard someone say "treatable" I think, I am still in shock, and because of surgeries, chemo, long hospital stays (8 days)etc., I have absolutely no income and for some reason the federal government and state government offices I find EXTREMELY difficult to navigate. Unfortunately, I have found myself with no support network, all family and friends far away and unable to make any gestures.

My dogs Romeo and Zelda are my children.  I love them so much.  They are both 7 years old.  The reason for my listing is because of my vet costs for Romeo.  He is the sweetest, most affectionate, lovable dog.  Everyone falls in love with Romeo the minute they meet him, and of course, Romeo falls in love with everyone the minute he meets them.

Unfortunately, he has a lot of health problems; he has a thyroid problem that requires medication for the rest of his life, he has a heart murmur that is getting worse and will probably require medication sometime in the near future, he has Cushing's disease, and has just been put on medication, which he will have to take for the rest of his life.  The Cushing's disease has caused him to be hospitalized three times in the last three years.  His last visit, on April 29, 2007, left me with a vet bill of almost $2,200.00!!!  Then came more tests and x-rays for his heart murmur and to check his liver, which becomes enlarged due to the Cushing's.

The medication that he is taking for Cushing's requires a monthly blood test, at least for a few months, to make sure that the medication is at the right levels and doing what it's supposed to do.  After that the test will have to be given every 3 months, and then maybe we can go to every six months.  That test alone is $130.00.  The medication costs about $90.00 a month.  It's a new British drug that is not yet licensed in the U.S. so I get it online, and I have shopped around for the best price.

If you can donate to Romeo's cause I would be so grateful!  You can donate through this website, or you can support Romeo's cause by placing an order for a custom-designed pet gift basket (my home-based business) at www.fetchagiftpetbaskets.com.  You can also make a donation to my non-profit lost and found pet website, that I started while I lived in Nashville, at www.nashvillepetfinders.org

I appreciate anything that you can offer!

Thanks so much,

Sonya

We are desperately in urgent need of financial Assistance asap

Hello,

I am a Single Mother of four children, ages 23,18,8,& 4 yrs old; I am pleading for a little help so we may relocate into at least a three bedroom house. We live on a very busy street in a duplex without a backyard. To have a house where the lil'tikes could have neighbors to play with would be a dream for them. Not to mention the fact that the children have considerably grown us out of our home here. I currently rent where I have lived in our present location for over 11 years; so to relocate now will not be too difficult but definitely necessary. I have checked with all the local agencies around here for financial assistance to help me in this relocation. But, had no luck do to the fact we are indeed blessed not to be homeless. I have checked into the cost, and it will cost us a substantial amount of about $3,200.00 to relocate my family at the bare minimum. We would be extremely grateful for any help we could get to gather the funds it will take for such a move. I have managed to set aside so far $250. Trying to pay for graduation and save while also seeing to the needs of the children is in it’s self a very difficult task. If some one would consider even helping us out with a loan, I would be willing to work that out if posible as well.
Any help we may receive would be truly grateful. Please Help us.
Your generosity would be extremely grateful.
Sincerely and truly
gratefully yours

Want Baby's first christmas to be special.

I am a mother of a beautiful 8 month old baby boy.  Recently my sons father got into some trouble with the law, and was deported to mexico. He will not be coming back for a while, if ever. I dont get anything from him since hes gone. I am on welfare, but its not enough to take care of a baby and mysef. When he was deported, i had only the money i get from welfare coming in, which was not nearly enough to pay for our appartment.. I had no place to go..my father who lives in a senior mobile home community allowed me to move in with him temporarialy..because it is against the rules for me and the baby to live with him. Janurary 15th is my last day here. I am saving everything i can but its not going to be enough for security deposit and rent. What i need is help with a cheap appartment, mobile home....or if there is someone out there willing to rent a room to me and my baby..please let me know. Also..since i am saving money for our move..i am unable to buy anything for my son for christmas. I do realise he is to young to understand..but i understand..and it hurts thinking that , for my sons first christmas he will not be getting any gifts. If you can help...he is 8 months old..and he needs clothes (size 9-12 month), toys, shoes (size 2-3),  or anything that you would be willing to help me with. I dont care if its used..I only care that there will be somthing 'new' for him this christmas.

please help.

Are there GRANTS for ARTISTS that want to start a small business???

I've heard that there is money available, through grant programs that can help start a business.  I've also heard that there may be grants available especially for women, entreprenurs and maybe for artists.  I want to start my own decorative painting business, and really have very little means of doing so currently.  I want to try and become independent as my marriage is on the rocks.  I'm not looking for a free ride, or anything that is not honest.  I just wanted to inquire about the grant programs that I've heard so much about.  If I can get this going, I would eventually like to start up a childrens art studio with monthly art auctions in our community.  I live in Benicia, CA which would truly appreciate such a creative place.  We are a very art oriented town, and I think it would fit in perfectly.

I think the amount I would require is around $5,000.00 - $10,000.00.  I know a formal business plan would be necessary to come up with a better estimate, whick is what I am working on, now.

SUBJECT:   HELP PLEASE !

To Whom It May Concern:

If I may take a few minutes of your time I would like to share with you where my family currently stands with our finances, including our mortgage, and how we got to this point. On May of 2006 I left my previous 12 year job with County Fire Department for the following three reasons: (1) my position with County was being eliminated as of July 1st 2006. (2) Because I was losing my job with County I tried to be positive, aggressive, and proactive in finding a new job before I was let go. I Began testing in Colorado in October of 2005 and was doing very well. I continued testing for the next nine months truly believing I would be successful in getting a job in Colorado in particular with the Denver City Fire Department.  I was very successful with my testing efforts and the job was pending on passing a final background. The Start/hire date was estimated to be around mid July giving us enough time to pack move and get established in our rental home before I started my new job. (3) My wife was pregnant with our second child and was put on mandatory bed rest by her doctor until further notice due to complications. This happened in the first of May and I resigned 5 days later with County Fire to be with my wife and my two year old daughter.

It’s about mid May of 2006; I am home packing the house to move, taking care of my wife and my daughter. I continued making trips to Colorado for final testing and to look for our new home and a rental. We as a family make a trip around the end of May and put money down on a new Pulte house in Broomfield Colorado and we find a rental to live in until our house is built. My parents came along with us because they are also selling their house and moving with us. Our current home in Helendale has not sold yet and the market has dropped significantly from what it was one year ago. We decided that if it doesn’t sale before we move that we could afford to rent it out and we would be able to make up the difference with the money I would be making on my new job.

By June we are ready to move and are looking forward to this exciting new start with our lives in Colorado. Around mid June I receive a letter from Denver City stating that I did not pass the final Background and was disqualified for employment. I called to find out what happened and they said that they could not divulge any information but said that I could hire my own private investigator to find out what caused the problem. I hire an investigator and find out that we have been victims of identity theft for many years and that would automatically disqualify me from any government/public service job. I was confused and angry without any idea what had happened or how to fix this problem.

It is now July of 2006 I am now without a job unable to move and trying to figure out what to do for a job to support my family and how do I accomplish fixing this identity theft problem. I spend the next 8 months trying to fixing the identity theft problem spending over 5, 000.00 dollars of our money (not to mention the 75,000 per year lost from losing employment) making hundreds of phone calls to agencies such as San Bernardino County Sheriff, FBI, FTC, IRS, Social Security, AIG, Creditors, Banks, and many others. I have filed two dozen reports to meet the needs of every agency requesting documentation, I have also spend 8 to 10 hours a day looking for work or working small jobs like washing cars, yard work, small construction jobs etc. I have turned in over thirty (30) applications but I am unable to find work because my fifteen years of experience, diploma, and formal training are all based on the Fire Service. The catch 22 problem is I can’t test for fire departments until the identity theft problem is solved or I would run into the same problem I had with Denver City. I continue to hear the same thing from every employer, why are you here and are you going to go back to the fire service? Once I explained the problem they seemed compassionate about my problem but were unable or unwilling to hire me. Over the months we get further and further behind financially. Finally by mid January of 2007 I find a new job. The job is with Barstow Community College and is only part time at this point but I am extremely happy to be working again. Even though I am working I continue looking for full time work in the fire service.

The past several years I have been in a head on car accident with a drunk driver, lost a child, lost my grandmother on Christmas day, lost a best friend to cancer, lost both cars that we owned, my identity, a career, my dreams, ambitions, hope, peace of mind and joy. I have also sacrificed many personnel items like golf clubs, Thomas Kinkaid art collection, football card collection, collector coins passed down by family, and many other valuable items that we had to garage sale or sold on EBay to make money just so we could survive. Our credit has been severely damaged and our faith challenged. In addition to all of that I have suffered from several illnesses requiring medications and a lot of doctor visits. We experienced corrupt real-estate when we tried to refinance our home to get money to help us and instead we lost 30,000 dollars and gained nothing, that problem is currently under investigation with the DRE. We also gave up our dream to move to Colorado, a new house, a great new job doing what I love, and having the ability to help my parents who are retired and on a fixed income and were also counting on moving. My wife and I are hanging on by a thread and are tired, stressed, frustrated, deeply depressed, angry, and confused. We really don’t want to lose the one thing we have left, our home.

I totally and completely understand that this is not your problem and that you are not responsible for helping us in any way, however, I hope that you can find it in your hearts to help my family anyway possible. This is our problem and I take my commitment that I made to you very serious and we continue to do all wee can to make things right again. We really don’t want to lose our house. I refuse to walk away without trying to do everything in my power first. I don’t want a short sale or foreclosure, this does nothing for you or me to solve the problem and in the end we all lose. I am confident that there is an answer to this problem and that it can be solved. Again, I understand you don’t owe us anything and you have every right to take our home, I just ask that if there is any way possible that you or anyone else may be aware of to help us help our selves get back on track, please let me know. Please help us if you can.

As stated in this letter I am now working part time and my wife starts working the first of April. We are confident that we can get back on our feet and are slowly getting there. Please understand that we have lost over 100,000 dollars this past year to year and half, but we are not going to give up we are resilient, confident, humble and hard working and we are committed to make this unfortunate situation right again. We will try to do ALL we can to make this work and pray you can help us. I thank you so much for your time and consideration in regards to this matter.

Note:
The following documentation can be provided to you for verification if you request it:

1. Police report
2. FTC report #
3. Investigation report
4. Denver City denial letter
5. Lawyer letter from working on credit issues

7. Letter from my wife giving her perspective of events
8. Records of financial support from our church
9. Witness of events letters from friends and family

Thanks again for your consideration, time, and help

Sincerely,

Scott Giordano

I am a 52 year old female that is living on $32.00 per day which is from the county for provided child care for my one year old grandson so that my daughter can go to school. I hope to get back into the work world in a few months when she has finished school but the way my teeth look I know that I do not have the confidence to go out there. I am not eligible for any kind of government help that I can find anyways and have no insurance of any kind.  I have not been able to afford to go to a dentist for several years now and I am in danger of losing the few teeth that I have left. I do have a partial plate on the top, but the three teeth of my own that remain have crowns that are around 20 years old. The crowns are receding far from my gums and one of the clamps on my partial is broken off. I have five teeth left on the bottom, all in the front, so it makes it very difficult to chew and my bottom teeth are pushing my own top teeth out of position. I desperately need some kind of financial help so that I can get these fixed.
Does anyone out there know of any resources that may be available to me that I have not found? PLEASE. I do not want to be one of those old people living out of dumpsters because for some reason or another they cannot afford the necessities of life. I only have 10 or 15 good working years left if I am lucky, but I need to have my teeth fixed first. I am desperate. Anybody PLEASE!!!
Thank you for the time you took to read this.

Hello Fellow Philanthropist,

My name is Erica and I am a full-time college student.  I am in my fourth year of college and currently in my most diffult financial situation.  I am in need of temporary help to pay for my books and tuition this spring semester.  You are probably wondering why I am here asking for your help and not turning to family.  Well my situation is a little different from most of my peers, I am completely on my own.  I do not and have not had my family support for the last 4 years of presuing an education.  I am paying my way through college with very hard earned cash that I have saved over the years.  By the grace of God I have made it through the last four years successfully.  This year however my saving is running short.  I will be graduating soon, but not for another year, as I have recently declared my major and scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2008.  Although I have not had much to live on each year, roughly about $2,500 a year, I have still managed to give back to others in my community to help them financially.  I have written personal checks to single mothers, familes of six, and donated to various charities to aid children such as Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Children's Charities.org, and regularly give to the Salvartion Army.  At the same time I have received the occasional financial helping form others as well, but that returned help is very small.  I am coming into a desperately tight corner and I cannot seem to find my way out.  I have a $1,500 bill hovering over my head from my University that I must pay by March 1st.  If this bill is not payed I will be dropped from my classes.  You may be wondering why I have not applied for scholarships or loans; well I have applied for scholarships and my financial aid money  that was granted to me has run out.  I have not applied for credit loans, because I cannot see the good in paying one debt with another debt and higher interest rate.  This $1,500 bill is the remainder for this current school year.  I am currently employed and doing what I can to make payments, but my university is demanding a full one-time payment of this bill. It is an amount that I simply cannot make in one month.  So how did I get into this situation?  I will tell you:  it began with a surgery on January 12th to remove my tonsils.  Due to a deteriorating immune system aided from tonsils that were no longer doing their job in preventing sickness, my physician in my university's campus health center strongly recomended that I have them removed.  This original recommendation was given to me 2 years ago, but due to the fact that I do not have medical insurance I did not have the surgery then.  Since that time my health began to get worse and I endured repeated illnesses of tonsilitis and strep-throat every 3 months.  Finally after a very bad case of tinsilitis that left me with enflammed tonsils for 3 months, I scheduled the surgery at the local hospital Long Beach Memorial.  I was forced to use the money that I had saved for my education to pay for the surgery, $1,500.

Now I have the university bill and time is quickly slipping by me.  I am asking for the most help that I have ever asked for in my life.  I am not one to  ask for the help of others, it is simply not apart of my nature.  I would rather give than take from the hand of good honest people.  I have waited until I have no other choices but to ask from you, the good hard working person who is trying to make their way, just like me.  If you can find it in your heart to help me pay this last portion of my educational bill, I will be so grateful to you for your kindness.
