I am a disabled vietnam era veteran. About two years ago I suffered two strokes and saw first hand the obstacles that people and families in need go thru when they are struck with an unforeseen incident. The world can turn into a cruel and cold and lonely place. It seems that the only visitors that approach you are people that want to take their pound of flesh. All the collectors come to collect their debts and there is no way of holding them off. Sometimes families are forced to make harsh and rash decisions just in order to survive the tradegy.

I do not want anyone to feel the way that I did when I had my strokes. Dealing with the feeling of complete loss and disarry of your life only compounds itself on your situation. It harms both you and the family around you in so many ways. The emotional, physical and financial strain can become unbearable. Along with the illness and long sleepless nights you are also plagued with the ever approaching feeling of doom. THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO SURVIVE!!!

I was able to first hand experience this and to speak with others that have gone through these incidents also. There are a few basic needs that must be met in order to get through this crisis safely and remain in a stable environment.

Basic needs include but are certainly NOT limited to:

Food / Shelter / Medical Care

Knowing that someone cares and that there are people who can or want to help, makes a big difference in bridging the gap to becoming healthy and viable again.

What I have decided to do and wish to attempt to pass on to people are both the basic needs and the knowledge that there are others that care and sympathize with people in need.

I hope to help bridge the gap between the needs and the needy!

I am starting a non-profit organization to help veterans and their families cope with the difficult and rocky time between receiving either their benfits or their pension. I wish to exted this service also to the homeless in need.

I need help to get this venture started. Any help from you would help out the cause greatly!!!  One of the things that we need too do is purchase wholesale/discount/surplus items to raise  funds for the cause.
We can't do this without you and there are people waiting to be helped. Please help us bridge the gap between the needed and needy.

I want to be an organization that ACTUALLY helps, not just a name that people are turned away from when they are in need.

Hello ;  We are survivors of the Sept. 11th tower attacks, afterwhich we moved back to Missouri , only to have our lives torn appart by a Tornado that devistated our town of Jackson Mo..My husband and I are having our 30th wedding anniversary this sept. , and have made it through many  financial pot holes throughout the years, through faith and hard work. We are trying to recover on our own, but living in todays economy is hard enough ,  recovering all alone today is becoming imposible .   I have serious herat problems and severe joint and muscle pains and therefore can not work.  My husbands's job does not pay much , we are just making our bills.  Right now in May / June  of 2008, due to lost work because of severe folloding and  the ice storms that our area has suffered , we are a month behind on our rent which is $300.00, and our elect. which is $246.00, and now our cars licence plate has expired , which means we have to pay $60.00 for our county taxes, $45.00 for the plates, and $75.00 for insurance before we can get it plated....  We also have a payday loan out for $300.00 , that every 2 weaks we have to pay off and get a new loan from them  , to cover the money we used to pay the first one off . We are also in nead of a car battery, and some  car repair.  We were counting the  tax stimulous check to bail us out , but now they told us it was taken for back taxes they claim we owe from way back when...  We do not have time to fight this , we are drowning now... We are so tired of fighting to live.  There is no fight left in us . I am also strugling with having  endured a lot of losses last year, I lost  several loved ones , one after the other.  We use to love people, and had so much faith , now that We find my ourselves  at the mercy of others we are finding   a cold and lonely world out there. If anyone has any advise on where we can turn to get a grant or long term loan for help with theese bills , it would be  greatly appreciated. THANK YOU FOR YOU TIME.  Beverly.

Mother of three need help until I can get back on my feet. I lost my job back in December but was hires as a waha agent with an online telecommunications provider. Iwas paid for training at my states min. wage. It averaged to be $164. for the 38 hrs. of training. I recived my check when I was suppose to and everything. Then the day comes I'm going to actually go to work and nothing. It loads everythng like they said it would in training but it don't recognize me. ANyway...to make a long story short. I have finally been able to log on but know there are no schedules. Imagine, that? Anyway... I have been looking for an outside job here but now my money has ran out. The gas company wants around $315. by Now,my rent was caught up until my landlord showed up yesterday and gave me an eviction notice b/c my rent check bounced. She has given me until Monday. My car note is a month behind. He is kind enough to work with me but I realize he has a business to run and needs his money just as well. I do have a pay pal account but I am not asking for anymoney be sent to me directly I will give you my account numbers and phone numbers,ETC. I wouldn't be asking but I have no where else to turn. I am feeling a little bit better today. I was seting here and a company I applied for about a month ago called and set an interview for Monday. So, even if you don't help me out financially.Pray for me that I do get this job. I might be homeless by the time I get it but at least I will have a way to get my kids back with a roof over their heads. Besides,if they cut off the heat we can't stay here anyway. It's like 33 degrees outside. I have contacted several area agencies but everyone seems to be out of funds. So,I officially have no where else to go. My mother already has a full house in her little two bedroom apartment. My Dad is MIA has been for a couple of years now. So,no one. Just pray my kids are safe and happy!!!!!!!

A little background information. I am 40, almost 41 years old, married with two beautiful daughters ages 8 and 5 and disabled since April 2001. I receive Social Security Disability but we all know that it does not come close to a regular pay check. Before I got sick, my wife and I were both working and our combined income was close to $85K per year. I began getting sick in 1999 with acid reflux or GERD. I went through every drug on the market and using each above the recommended maximum dosage with little or no relief. When it began eating away at the lining of my esophagus to the point I was developing holes in the lower portion near the point where it connects to the stomach and spilling into my lungs so badly that they thought I had developed asthma, their only other option for me was a surgical procedure called fundoplication. This procedure takes the upper portion of the stomach and and wrap it around the esophagus to tighten the valve to prevent the acid from coming back up and to cover the holes. It was supposed to be a laproscopic procedure where I had it done on one day, spend the night in the hospital and go home the next morning. My maximum time off work was to be two weeks. I actually left the hospital on the day I was supposed to return to work. When I kind of came to on the first day after having the laproscopic procedure go so badly that I had to be opened up the full length of my abdomin so that they could try to fix what they did that almost killed me plus I was in intensive care. The next day, they did a test where I drank some awful tasting mess so they could check for any leaks in my stomach or anything. Guess what, they stated that they found leaks and back into the operating room I went where they took everything they did the day before apart and did it all again. This time when I woke up, again in intensive care, I was on a ventolator for a week. They took the thin lining that is between your organs and your skin to keep then from growing to each other to wrap my stomach and seal off the 3 or 4 places that it tore open during the laproscopic surgery. During the first, laproscopic, surgery, in addition to my stomach tearing open in 3 places, my liver was cut/damaged to the point that the gave me at least 4 units of blood. I haven't been able to work since then. I have constant diarrhea, abdominal pain which is increased when I eat anything at all, on a scale of 1 to 10, I stay around 8 or 9 all the time. I also have a partial small bowel obstruction that will eventually have to be surgically fixed. The obstruction(s) are caused from the extreme amount of scar tissue that I have in my abdomin which is why they don't want to operate again until they absolutely have to. I have been admitted to the hospital 12 times in just the past 3 years and have already had to have surgery to correct a blockage in my colon. My small intestines, colon and I don't know what else is attached to my skin where the lining was removed. I cannot lift anything more than 5 to 7 pounds, pull, strain, climb, crawl  nor stand, sit or lye down for more than about an hour and a half at a time because of the pain. I also have areas that are close to herniating which will also cause another surgical procedure. When they admit me for a blockage, I spend a week there with a tube down my nose (NG Tube), in my stomach connected to a suction pump to pull all of that stuff back out and clear the blockage, for then anyway. One, I cannot even stand to think about any other surgery and two, the doctors don't want to do it either.  In addition to all of that, and I left some things out, I have degenerative disk disease in my back, my spine has lost it's curve at the end where the tail bone is. Also, I have to sleep with a CPAP machine because of sleep apneia and have to take medicine during the day because I also have narcolepsy. Dealing with all of this has caused depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder from the surgery. I still and always will deal with these health issues and mental stress from now on. Because of all of my problems, it's obvious that my wife had to leave her job to care for my and our children so we have been trying to make it on Social Security Disability which is getting harder and harder every day. We have already gone through our savings and 401(k)'s to survive and keep our home and a vehicle. Our credit is shot because we have had the 2 cars that we had when this all happened repossessed. Also, all of the other credit we had then, fell behind and pretty much totally destroyed our credit. We are behind one house payment and the mortgage company is a pain to deal with and absolutely refuse to offer any assistance at all. I am still trying to pay some on my hospital co-payments that are now pushing a total of close to $10K and I never know from day to day when I may have to go back. Plus, like everyone else, I have the normal power, phone, cable, water, trash pickup, car payment, car insurance, homeowners insurance, food and school things for our girls. We also heat and cook using propane gas. We have been without propane for 95% of the winter and we are out now which means we heat with small electric heaters and cook on a hot plate, microwave or small toaster oven. Right this moment, we have a total of maybe $5 to last two more weeks and it's about to drive us crazy. We can't cook, heat nor watch TV because the cable has been turned off until I can get money to pay them in two weeks. I am the type of person who hates to have to ask others for help. I would rather help others than to ask for help but I don't have much of a choice right now. Our families, our church and our friends have been great during all of this but they all have their own bills and families to take care of also. Any help would greatly be appreciated! May God bless you!

Im not even sure what this site is for other than just having people out there who know what im going through. I have spent the last few years wondering if im going to be able to hang on. Im an adult survivor of child abuse and sexual abuse. For most of my life I have been able to maintain, but recently I feel like im comming apart. Im sure most of it is related to the fact that my life latley is so out of control. The economy is so bad right now that the stress level's have reached an all time high. I know im not the only one out here suffering, I just feel like I am.  I was diagnosed with Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome, re-occuring depression, Severe Panic and Anxiety. So with all this going on the lack of money isn't helping. I know what I need to do, and I want to be able to do it, I just cant. And I know what your thinking not with that attitude, but I used to have a great attitude, I just lost it somewhere down the road. My husband is Disabled with a bad Back and Knee, It makes it hard because we are trying to maintain a house and raise 3 kids on his disability pay and it just doesnt work.. I've tried everything. I have tried to work and tried to go to school but I just cant finish anything. I start out great and then fizzle. It gets so bad I get so over whelmed I cant continue I start getting panic attacks and then im done. If anyone can offer suggestions Im open. Anything.

until then Im still hanging in there.

I am in desperate need of help. I need $2,000 dollars for my gas bill. My gas was disconnected. I have 3 small children ages 7, 4, and 9 months. I bought a house 3 years ago and the windows leak really bad. In the winter my gas bill is outrageous. Everythings gone downhill since I bought this house. My engine blew in my car and I have a disease called ulcerative colitis which makes it hard for me to work because im constantly in the hospital because im sick. Im not looking for sympathy just some kindhearted help. We have been 2 weeks without gas and so far we have managed but winter will be here before we know it. I have contacted my state aid agencies and their funds are all exhausted. Im not just some lazy mother looking for free money. I am a student working toward a special education degree and I work and volunteer part time for the special ed kids through a park district. If anyone can give me some help like advice on any funding thats available, it would mean the world to me and my family. Thank you for your time.

I was happily married to my dream girl and suddenly I was a widower with a broken heart and a lot of debt.  My wife and I both worked but she had a good career which she loved.  She considered going to work a blessing.  I did not make as much money as my wife so now I am left lonely and minus her income.  I miss my wife so very much.  My son is also with me.  My wife was the best stepmom I have ever seen to my son.  She gave him a spanking on the butt when he needed it but praise when he deserved or needed it.  I pray that my son realizes just how much my wife loved and cared for him.  She made sure that he got a yearbook for school, class pictures and anything else he may have needed.  When his baseball team had a cookie dough fundraiser, she sold the most boxes of cookie dough in his division.  Pam was the best wife and stepmom and I miss her so much.  I loved Pam so much.  I need temporary financial help so my son and I can continue to live in the home where the three of us have lived together.  My son is only 12 years old so I need to keep our home.  If anyone knows how or where I can get help, please let me know.  We live in Louisville, KY.

Hi - My name is Cindy. I am seeking out people who are middle-class and being denied assistance by our govenment. I am looking forward to advice on how to turn my situation around.

I am a single mom making $40k a year (which used to be considered good money). But, I receive no child support my son's father (literally nothing ever) and with the cost of daycare and everyday living expenses such as car pymt, gas, auto insurance & healthcare costs. I have had to move home with my parents!! At 34 yrs old!! And I still don't have a damned dollar in my pocket even now that I have moved back home! I have no healthcare plan for myself because I can't afford the additional premium. Therefore, coverage is only on my son...AND I STILL PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR MOST MEDICAL SUTUATIONS DUE TO THE PLAN HAVING A $1500 DEDUCT!! HA! I can't even cry about it anymore. Additionally, I pay taxes for no reason because I get paid "too much" to qualify for food stamps or any other form of gov't assistance (which I am embarrassed to say that I really need).

Hello everyone. I am a struggling nursing student and looking for someone to help me pay my bills this month. I have been getting by with financial aid but this month I have nothing. My rent was do on the first of February and still have not been able to pay. I am willing to take a loan as well. My credit is bad and I am losing hope that I will be able to pay this. I have 3 lovely children and a single parent as well. I recently got hired at a hospital but as we all know the pay check doesn't come fast enough. I am a hardworker and just in a bit of a bind this month. Currently in nursing school and have one more semester left before graduation. Please if any one knows of where I could turn for help or if someone is willing to help me, please let me know. thank you for lending a ear!
