HUD/SECTION 8/Govt subsidized housing Section 8 housing usually has a long list because the subsidy is attached to the person, not the property. This means that regardless of where the person lives, they still get the subsidy. In NY the waiting list is 8-10 years. ****If at anytime, you are denied accessibility to applying for any program, you should contact your local city, county, or state leaders and have them intervene on your behalf. - THIS APPLIES TO ANYONE WHO IS DENIED ASSISTANCE.
HOWEVER, there is another alternative. Subsidized housing where the subsidy stays with the property rather than with the renter. You would still pay the same amount of rent - it is based on your income - but you would have to move into a government subsidized property.
In most cases, these are handicapped accessible, family oriented, all the maintenance is included - among other things.
I am including the link for HUD below - just click on the proper state and take it from there. You will need a minimal security deposit - which you can possibly get paid by social services or another charitable organization.

Hey how are you doing? Unfortunatly I could be better. I need to have surgery on my arms becase I got into a motorcycle accident and burned my forarms on the exahust pipes and need to have a skin graft done on them. It is keeping me from go back to college for computers because I have to constantly look for money to live. I cant do any physical work no matter how much I want to just to make an income , because I need to keep my arms wrapped up and dirt free and sweat free. So I am in a crappy situation. Recently, I lost my job as a Registered Nurse. Before I was laid off of my job, I was in the process of rehabbing my first home. However, my home collapsed, I lost my job and now I am stuck with a mortgage of $1000 a month to pay(in which I haven't paid for in five months). Hi my name is Jose and I googled "i need money" and it brought me to this site. I am 23yrs old and the father of 4 wonderful kids ages 6, 5, 3, and 4mths. I just left a bad marriage. I am broke, have no home, no car, and cannot even get a job because my identity was slowly stripped from me over the last 4 years. He has my only remaining identity, my passport.These things take money to replace, plus I'll have to retake my driver's test, as my license expired over 2 years ago. I have a 14 year old son. I'm staying with my parents, but they are not well off and cannot afford for us to stay very long. I want to get my identity back, get a car, and a home. Try this page for assistance. Money will help sometimes , but try some of these organizations for help with free car care. Asking for just money on Aidpages probably won't get your car fixed. If you attend a church , they may be able to refer you to a car ministry in your area.

Along with many here in desperate situations, I among them am asking for help. My story is not as tragic as most but I am beginning to lose hope and I have reached the end of my helplines. I lost my job in October and have since lost my apartment. Everything I own that was placed in storage is locked out to me since I can no longer afford the bill. And my important belongings run the risk of being auctioned until the bill is paid. I did get a new job but the position will not start until the latter part of Dec./ beginning of January. I have two friends who have allowed me their couch and I know that the time for that will expire soon since this is their home and Im in the way.

Hello, I need help to pay my credit card bills. I am about $7,000 in debt. When I was 5 months pregnant I was let go from my job, so I found a part time job for 4 months. Then came the baby (this is our first) he is perfect. I had no debt untill after the birth of my son. Well I could not work for 2 months and bills started adding up. life sucks and I need money. My name is Michael and I've
moved to a place where I don‘t want to live because of lack of money.
My earnings come from a job that's picking up after others because I
couldn't get a decent job to cover my expenses. I have bad credit from
a credit card I used just to move here and I maxed out my card mostly
because of the high price of gasoline. My dad recently died and mom is
too poor to help me. So I decided to get a job anywhere to pay for
things like rent and bills and food. I tried to get a better job but I
need a college degree. My job right now is cleaning up after people
and I make bare minimum wages making just a little over $6 an hour.
But at least I’m eating. Hot dogs tortia chips and peanut butter
sandwiches are what I eat the most of. Sometimes I can afford to buy
fruit and cereal and Swanson diners. I still owe my friends money and
I'm going deeper in debt every week because of the low-paying job that
I now have. I need to move back near where my family is. I need to
pay off my VISA card so I don't have bill collectors mailing me
threatening letters any more. I need a better job and I plan to get
one just as soon as I move back to my home town where I would like to
be. I need about $6,300 to move and to pay off my VISA card and start
