I am the mother of a wonderful two year old and engaged to an equally wonderful man.  We just closed on our first home, and we love it.  We were living in a tiny one bedroom apartment, and my daughter slept in the dining room, which also happened to be the office.  We went from having no room what so ever to wondering how to fill all the space in our new house.  Dahlia loves having her own room!  After the past few years of my life, I finally feel as if I just might make it after all.

Now to the problem--right before we closed, I lost my full time position, in which I was making about $1600 a month, and my fiance is about to receive a cut in pay.  I threw myself into the job market as soon as I lost my job, but so far I have only found part time jobs that don't even pay half of what I used to make.  Our first payment is due in one month.  However, we don't even have the money to make do right now and are at our wit's end over it.  I, personally, have debt that was formed before I met my fiance, back when I was in a very unhealthy relationship.  I made several bad choices and did many things that I am not proud of.  I really want to get my life turned back around and start repairing all the damage I have done...I have been given that chance, but now it is slipping away I am going to do all I can to hold on to it.

I don't want people to send me free money or anything like that....(although, if you really want to, I'm no fool...I'll gladly accept it and try to repay you in some way!!!)  What I want is some advice, or an opportunity.  I know that I have talent that just needs a place to grow.  I know my fiance is intelligent, hardworking, and a wonderful person (he took on me and my infant daughter, pledging to be her father and all, after having only been with me a couple months!  And after all this time, he's still here...).  If anyone has been in a similar situation and has some suggestions, let me have them!!!  If anyone can offer him a job that pays well, let me know--he will receive his associates in business in October, and is currently a sales rep for a food distributor.  If anyone has some work for me, let me know--I have experience in data entry, customer service, groundskeeping, retail, food service, some horse grooming experience, theatre, several types of artistic endeavors, writing poetry and stories, sewing, and I specialize in photography.  Either of us are open to doing new things and would love to have a chance to really make something of ourselves, and keep our house for our little girl....and my dog....

In the year 2000 the Raymond-Hawkinson family was established. We bound our relationship with the purchase of land and a home. In 2003 we sacrificed what we had to try to save the lives of our beloved pets who were cruelly poisoned in their own yard by illegal area hunters. We lost our car which resulted in the loss of a job, then electricity/water and eventually our home and land.

We do not regret our decision to try to save the lives of our pets.

We discovered what our family truly wanted when we had to move out of our new house and live on the 2 acres of land we had. We learned how to build tipi's, we learned how to cook over open fire, how to use dehydrated foods, rely on the sun to warm our tipi and to heat water for bathing. We had to lug our own water so we also learned a lot about water conversation and recycling. We had no septic system to use, we had to learn safe methods of waste treatment. Had the house and land not been tied up in the same mortgage we could have let the house go without batting an eye. We had found something far more stable...but the land went with the house.

That experience while so many see it as heartbreaking really wasn't. We found that we had more when we had less. Now that we have modern housing that must be powered up and hooked up to water/sewer and we rely on grocery stores and the gas to get there...we are paying far more and have far less than what we had while relying on the earth.

Our family goal is to make our income count. If we could only get a piece of land and build unconventional shelters, grow our own much healthier food and use what nature offers to us we could be doing better in life.

We wish to build our shelter to compliment the abilities of our disabled family members and not be forced into paying expensive rents for adapted rentals or have to live with my mom the rest of my days which would include paying to have her house adapted.

If you can help us get started...we can do the rest. All we need is a piece of land in an unrestricted area.

looking for employment

My husband died unexpectedly, he did not have life insurance or health insurance, he was never ill. Two months later, I lost my job. The next day, I filed for unemployment and registered with the TWC for help to find a job. I received unemployment until August. I applied for every job that I qualified for in the TWC listings, there were many, I only got a few interviews. I am not sure that the job postings were up to date, so many of them sent me responses that the jobs were closed. Some jobs were posted a day or two before they were to be closed. I have sent out so many cover letters with resumes and applications. I have checked with my references, no one has contacted them. I feel like I've been sending out paper airplanes into empty space.  Many of the applications have gone to State agencies which list job vacancies.

I am diabetic and am out of my medications, I was on the Aim Low program in my county, in August they sent a letter about changes, I called to be rescreened (first screened in May) and was told to call back later, this is what happens each time I call, I am clearly qualified. Initally, in May, I applied to several of the prescription assistance programs and was approved, they were sent to the Aim Low pharmacy. I found out by accident that they had arrived and had been there a month without my being contacted. I finally received them but have received none since and have not been able to see a nurse/dr for refill prescriptions. I don't know where to turn as my diabetes cannot be ignored. I am following what I've been taught in managing my diabetes, but that is not enough without the meds I was prescribed by my doctor while I was still working and had insurance. I have lost alot of weight (40#) and my blood pressure has dropped to a much lower rate than it has been in more than 20 years. I think those factors have helped me with the diabetes complications.

I receive a survivor's benefit from social security, but it is only enough to pay my rent with $34. left over, I am behind on my utilities and must seek help to get reconnected, often. My car engine light blinks constantly and it runs "rough" needs spark plugs changed and maintenance work, so my gas mileage is poor. On the weekends I set up with an art group to sell note cards that I paint, and some jewelry that make with left over supplies from better times while my husband was alive and we were both earning. I sell a little, usually enough to pay my booth fee and gas money and a little extra used for food during the week. My back, arms and hands are beginning to be stiff from the loading and unloading each week. My hands ache for days and swell. I don't have medication for that. Last week my allergy to smoke flared up and I have had nerve pain in my jaw, ear and head that is almost unbearable.

I have a daughter about 20 miles away who ignores me since I asked her to keep my dog, a Lab named Lizzi for 3 days so I could go to help my younger daughter who was having a myelogram to determine therapy for an injury she is still suffering from that was not initally treated properly. She has alot of pain from her injury and is in physical therapy, that is not covered by her insurance. She works, but the therapy is very costly and she does not have money to help me with. My older daughter works and has a partner, who also works, but requires alot of her attention and 3 adopted children.  They do not communicate with me since I asked them to keep Lizzi for those 3 days. They have 2 dogs and 4 cats and a big fenced yard. Several years ago, when they were living in a condo, they dumped Lizzi with us when they didn't have a yard. Lizzi is very well trained and is always on a leash with me. the vet told us she was traumatized and that she should not ever have to stay in a crate, for any length of time. She loves them and is always so happy to be with them and gets along with their dogs and cats. I am sad that my older daughter seems lost to me. I am so alone. I do have kind neighbors, but to have family that is so close, but distant, is sad. I try not to think about my older daughter, hoping that she will call are show up someday. My younger daughter cannot make trips to visit often as her injury makes a 3 hour drive each way, something very painful to do, and not miss work when she gets back.  I need help and suggestions of how to move ahead, I am not old enough to retire at 62. I have alot of energy to give, just not enough money to make ends meet. I guess I really need caring attention, most of all.

We are a disaster response/preparedness organzation dedicated to saving lives and helping others. Through education, training and operations, we are able to assist communities in preparing for a disaster or emergency event before it happens, plus we can proivde trained volunteers to help during and after such an event.

Whether its search and rescue operatins, Community Emergency Response Team training, emergency communications or just about anything in between, we are dedicated to making it happen. We have created a new site called Donate 5 For Disasters, that we are using to help us raise the much needed funds that we use to continue our efforts and help others.

As the site name implies, we are just asking for donations of $5. More would be great, less is accepted, but the more the better we can help. We are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and 100% of all donations received are tax deductible.

We are currently working on the site right now, but you can still visit it and make a donation. Either click on the Click and Pledge link on the right side or use the Google Checkout button located on the bottom of the page.

Goodness, this is so hard. This is such an awesome site, and so many great people helping each other on so many ways..I really have a long story and I truly am not trying to whine, really but oh my Lord times are tough. O.k. I'll just jump right into it so here goes...:)

Married to a U.S. Army Veteran for almost 15 years, (my junior high sweetheart)..Two bright, wonderful, sweet children directly from God. They are 14 and 11. My husband got out of the Army in '97 and went directly to work in the field he is still in today. In 2005 Katrina hit us, and right after that he was laid off from the company he had been with since he got out of the army. The company was forced to close due to too much loss as a result from dear Ms. Katrina. Luckily at the time we had a little savings, but that went so quickly. Family helped as much as they could and he finally was able to get on with a new company doing the same job in 2006, we doggy paddled trying to get out from under the mountain that formed amazingly fast and things were starting to look alot brighter for us by 2007. During this time we were living with his parents, and finally got back into a home of our own in March of '07. Things went smoothly for a little while until a new corporation took over the one he was working under...there were alot of adjustments to make and work slowed down to a snails pace. Our family motto is "Through God all things are possible" and "And this too shall pass". We believe these things like nothing else. In January of this year his company just pulled out without any warning, their home office is in another state and there is no phone number or address in which to find these people. There was no last paycheck, no severance package...no "sorry, tough luck"..nothing..It is amazing how cruel life works sometimes, but we keep fighting the good fight..but we are losing fast. The landlord served a 3 day eviction notice today, I had been able to scrape up the rent for February, but didn't pay until Feb. 28th. We are now late, late, late for March ($600.00)..and going into April :( Another (600.00)....Utilities (500.00)

Total:$1700.00 that hurts just to type that

Now for the second part of our story..On March 5th, my husband had been out job hunting and was on his way home..well about 6 miles from home he ran out of gas on the side of the road. This was at about 7 p.m. He walked part of the way and then a great samaritan stopped and picked him up and brought him home. We thought we would just hop into my car and go right back to pick up the truck..here we go...the battery in my car was dead..no battery charger and none of the neighbors was available to jump us off. So my husband..bless his heart..at 1 a.m. he took off on our son's bike with the gas can in a plastic shopping bag slung over the handle bars.. Rode the 6 miles back to where the truck was and no truck was there..he had left his hazard lights on...left his strobe lights on...put out safety cones ALL around the truck..it was gone! So he rode the bike all the way back home, it is roughly 2:30 a.m. by now. We call the Sherriff's Department "Yessir we had it towed due to the fact that it was obstructing traffic"...just great...all of his tools, equipment..his entire livelyhood is on that truck.......so we call towing company...($120.00 towing fee + $25/day storage). "Can we at least get his work equipment off the truck, so that he may work to pay to get the truck out of storage"???????? "No ma'am, not until you pay all the fees".......By the time we got any amount of money the fees has accumulated so much that we cannot even touch what they want now, which is over $600.00..they are selling his truck April 25th...I guess right along with everything he needs to work.......My grandmother always said "when it rains it pours" I never knew quite what she meant until now. So we keep chugging along, just trying to make lemonade out of all these lemons, but I am so tired. We are both looking for work continuously. The bright side of all this, my babies are still smiling and holding their heads up...God is awesome! I am hoping that someone...somewhere may be able to help us, while we are trying to help ourselves..I have always believed in "doing my good deed for the day", because it always comes back around... be it in a special prayer from someone..a chuckle...a hug..a hand up??? Please if anyone can find it in their hearts to help, I will find any possible way to "pay it forward".

God Bless

This is my family coloring easter eggs together.  We have alot of fun together.  It is just tuff these days raising kids, paying bills, and all the other needs we have as a family. Me and my wife both work a full time job but still tough to make ends me.  The two girls you see in pic. are my biological daughters. Their mother left when they was young.  I have had full custody since day one because of the problems my ex-wife had.  They haven't seen their mother in 4 or 5 years now. She signed her rights over and I have been loving and caring for since. Then I met my new loving wife that is great for me and my kids.  This is embarrassing for me to beg but we could really use some financial help with debts and other bills.  It is the catching up on these debts that is tough.  Once I got the past due emounts taken care of then maintaining normal monthly payments would be easier.  But when you pay late fees and past due amounts you can't ever get caught up.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks from my family
