My daughter's boyfriend, who is 17 and a graduating senior, has had a difficult family life that has come to a head approximately two weeks before they are due to graduate.

His mother is a chronic alcoholic with many other issues as well. His father is not much better, but drinks a little less. They have made this poor kid's life a misery in many ways. For example, he is not allowed to close his bedroom door evrer, at any time. This is a 17 year old who is allowed no privacy, not even to change clothes or sleep. (I've known him for about 4 years so I know it's not a punishment or "good reason" issue) He finally got up the courage to get counseling at school just this year. His parents tried to force him into going to the Coast Guard Academy because they didn't want to have to pay for his college, despite having a Lexus, big house etc.

Now, two weeks before graduation, when it came time to pay deposits for school-a state school, not a private one- they announced they are not paying anything for his college at all because he's irresponsible- despite the fact that this kid holds the family together. Because it's so late and he's still, till July, a minor and was taken as a deduction on his parents tax return for last year, I'm not sure what can be done to help him. His counselor found an apartment he could share with 3 other students at college. He has the summer to make money and apply for additional assistance, but his immediate need is to pay the deposit to keep his place in school and some other fees that are due now

His parents have said he has to move out the day he's 18 so I've told him he can live with us. (And despite all this they're surprised that he doesn't want htem to go to the parents' picture taking party for prom. These people are just nuts. The mother keeps saying it's her right.) Anyway, that will save him having to pay room and board till the Fall. But, my family lives below the poverty level ourselves. I teach early childhood while I'm getting my production company going. I just don't have anything extra to help him now. Feeding and keeping him will be a big strain on our budget as it is.

I was hoping someone might have an idea of where he could go to look for help. I think he has enough time to get help for actual tuition for next year. He plans on working to make his room and board. I was hoping someone knew of some kind of grant or program that could be accessed quickly enough to help him pay his deposit and fees.

Any thoughts or brainstorming would be appreciated. He's a really good kid, very bright. He wants to be an engineer. He has managed to keep his grades up and his SAT's are good despite all the nuttiness he lives with.

I hate asking people for help in any way. I am the one who is always there to help other people when they need it. I volunteer regularly and for many events I do fundraising.

Now the time has come for me to reach out to others and lower my pride and ask for help. I lived with roommates that moved out. I was left with huge utility bills.  I am on housing assistance (it took me 3 years to get on this program and I can loose it if I get totally shut off.  I am also on RSDI- because I am disabled.

Every program or agency I have turned to, has turned me away due to funding issues.They have already shut off the gas 3 weeks ago. I just had a minor surgery for a MRSA  Staph Infection. I will have major surgery for it the end of July.

I need to soak in the bathtub and it has been just awful with cold water, but I can handle that. What I am having trouble with is now the electric company is coming Monday to shut off the electric I have a breathing machine that needs the electric to run for my lung disease. I am scared and have no idea what to do now.

The gas bill is $469.00 (xcel energy)   The electric bill is  $375.00 (connexus) The water bill is $257.16(city of forest lake). I am willing to show the bills to anyone who is willing to assist me.

 I am hoping there is someone out there that can assist me with at least the electric bill. Someone suggested I go to Modest Needs.I did  and they cannot assist me. They don't accept faxes or papers mailed in, you have to scan documents to them and I cannot find access to  one.

Hi where do I start.  In May 2004 I lost my Mother to Liver Cancer suddenly.  We were very close and every time I needed help with something she was there.  I was lost without her and I went through major deppression.  My only Sister and my Father were also very upset with her death.  My Dad delt with it by drinking and my Sister delt with it by holding it all in.  In August 2006 my only Sister who was 25 years old and a single Mother of a 4 year old girl, died in a drunk driving accident.  I was CRUSHED!!!!  I have 2 kids of my own and now I have my neice as well.  I went from being comfortable financially for the first time in my life to being jobless with three kids cause I could not afford the daycare.  My Husband decided that he would work to support the family.  He is a tow truck driver so he works a million hours and makes no money hardly.  Well about 2 weeks ago my Husband got in an accident at work and hurt his back and now is only able to work 6 hour shifts instesd of the 12 hour shifts that were barely getting us by.  That means now we have to survive on half the income we are used to.  I feel so helpless and I don't know where to turn.  If there is anybody that can help us get back on our feet that would be wonderful.  Right now our bank account is negitive, we have no food, no gas, and we are behind in all of our bills. I am new here but have been through a lot in my life and have had many chances to learn how to obtain help. I hope to be able to pass this help on to others through this site. I have worked for Social Security, mental health, have some legal training, social service training and in touch with many outside public services for help within the state of Michigan. I have only gained all this knowledge because of my needs and the lack of money to hire people to help me or lack of people in area with know how to help. I am not trying to come off as a person who knows it all I just want to be able to help others to not have to go through what I have had to over many years with many agencies. You have to become a pushy person sometimes on your own behalf to get anywhere!!!! I hope to be able to talk with others pass information on and to learn new.

I am at this time a volunteer for several agencies so have some access to resourches to help in some situations.

Hi, my name is Josh. I am 25 years old and I am in a rough situation this week.

 I lost my job a month and a half ago due to the fact that the business closed down. I was able to keep my bills up for a few weeks by doing odd jobs. (I am a carpenter by trade.) However my bills kept getting further and further behind.

 I now owe half a month on my rent payment (300.00) and I am stuck 1200 miles away from my wife and 5 month old son. I accepted a job with usa trucking company and was sent to cdl school in Indiananapolis,In. for 3 weeks. I graduated the school yesterday and came to my parents house in Hammond,In.. I am from Stevenson,Al.

 Due to the food expense while I was in school I now dont have the gas money to get home until my trainer picks me up in 1 week. I haven't seen my wife or son in 3 weeks and I would really like to get home to see them. If i dont get home to see them and i let my trainer pick me up here I will not get back home for 4 to 6 more weeks.

 I hate to be here asking for help like this but I can prove every word of what I say. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out and get me home for a few days. My landlord is willing to work with me on the rent until I get paid in 3 weeks,but I cant stay away from my wife and baby for 2 months without going crazy.
