ANOTHER PROGRAM ABOUT THE DISABLED AND HOUSING CHALLENGES

If our government  would provide more  in the way of finances for the disabled ,we wouldn't need this site. Since we do need the site , here it is :

OPENING DOORS - A HOUSING INITUATIVE FOR THE DISABILITY COMMUNITY

__________________________________________________________________________

Here are possible places you can look if you need help to pay for needed home modifications:

If the work is prescribed by your doctor you may be able to claim a Medical deduction on your Form 1040 income tax return.

Get contributions/donations/in-kind work from others (family members, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, other private foundations or community service groups, churches, sorority/fraternity service organizations or craftsmen's unions).

Under the Technology Related Assistance to Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988 (Tech Act), many states have programs that offer assistance on evaluating equipment and locating funds.

Ask your local Center for Independent Living for information on funding and resources that support "independent living in the community".

Funds may be available for home modifications under a Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services Waiver in your state. Contact your county welfare office for Medicaid eligibility.

Call your local Social Security office to see if any of the equipment you need might be covered under Medicare.

If you or your spouse is a veteran, call your local VA to see if funding is available.

Contact your local public housing authority (Office of Community Services, Supportive Services, Section 8, etc.). Ask, "Is there low income assistance available for housing modifications for people with disabilities?"

Looking For  LOW INCOME Housing

If you are looking for affordable/low income housing , this organization has an idea that  I have not heard of before. It is a good idea , though . Here is their suggestion.

"I am looking for housing that is affordable. Who can help me?

As a policy advocacy organization, NLIHC is not able to provide direct assistance to people looking for affordable housing.  However, there are places you can look for help.

Every member of Congress has a staff member whose job it is to assist the people they represent, that is, their constituents with issues such as the ones you are facing. This person should know the local community and how you can best go about finding the services you need.

To find your member of Congress, enter your ZIP code in the "Contact Congress" box below, or on NLIHC's home page. You will see a picture of your Representative, and under his or her picture will be a link that says info.  Click that link to get the phone number of the main district office.  Another link will give you the numbers of additional district offices; call the one that is nearest to you.   Ask for the person who handles constituent services. Explain your situation, and ask for suggestions on how to best access affordable housing in your district.  The constituent caseworker should be able to point you in the right direction or suggest resources in your area. "

Here is the site of the NLIHC , which stands for National Low Income Housing Coalition :

Another search for affordable housing , by state housing authority links .

A housing authority generally has two types of assistance available: Section 8 vouchers and affordable apartments.  This is not a complete listing of all that is available in each state , but it is a place to start in your search.

I NEED HELP TO PAY OFF MY DEBTORS AND TO BUY A NEW CAR

I am a single mother of two boys-ages 3 and 4.  I am currently working as a cena in a nursing home.  My wages do not allow me to pay my rent of $585, and keep the lights on too.  My fiance lost his job do to shortage of work, and we are behind in our rent.  Since we have been such good renters for two years, our landlord has been patient with us up until this point.  We just got custody of my fiance's 10 year old daughter in January of this year because her mother is a meth addict.  We have no where to go if we are evicted, and we are so ashamed and disgusted that we cannot even provide for our own children.  I want to go to school to become an LPN but cannot afford to go part-time at work to attend classes.  My fiance has been looking for work every day that I don't work, but it seems that there is nobody hiring for a certified diesel mechanic.  And just today the brakes went out on our car.  We work so hard, and it seems like as soon as we take one step forward, we fall two steps back.  If we had some financial help to pay off some of our past debts, and catch up on rent and other bills, it could buy us some time until my fiance can find a job.  I can't do it all by myself.  Where is the help out there?

need help paying rent & bills
we are a family of 3 it's been very hard for us in the last three months there is currently no jobs out here in the high desert, california we live in  apple valley 93207. I'm currently enrolled in  the RN program (but there is a 3 yr wait so my career plans are on hold and my husband was laid off and was unable to resieve unemployment please help us any one.   nancy granados-caro
I am in desperate need of help, I can't pay my rent and face eviction. We'll end up on the streets with two kids.

I need help paying my rent.  My boyfriend is disabled and we can't get any help for him. I had a job making $7.00 an hour and things were starting to look up but then I lost that job.  I just now found a new job making$6.95 and hour and now I have fallen behind in my rent I owe two months and they want to evict us within a couple of weeks.  I promise pay back anyone who helps as much as I can.  I am also facing health problems of my own but I go out to work eveyday.  I just need help.  I want to believe that people still care about others.  My name is Karrie and I'm  35 years old. I need about $1500.00 to get caught up.

Financial Assistance

Hi.  My name is Mindi.  My husband and I have run into some unforseen problems lately.  He lost his job and his current job only pays 250 a week.  My husband is the sole provider for our family of five.  I currently returned to college and am unable to work because I have three small children to look after.  If anyone can help us with the bills we have fallen behind on, or if anyone knows how to find some financial assistance, we both would be greatly indebted.  We want to teach our children the importance of education by setting good examples for our children.

I am 37 weeks pregnant, two small kids in the house, and about to lose my house
I am 37 weeks pregnant, I have a 6 year old and a one year old in the house. My boyfriend lost his job due to me being put in the hospital and he had to take off work to tend to our other kids while I was in the hospital and it put him over the pionts limit that his job had. We are $715 behind on our rent and we have till May 31st to get it paid. My boyfriend is out everyday looking for work and so far has not found nothing. If you know of how I can get help paying my rent so we won't get put out please email me at littlebritches0514@yahoo.com. I have went to all the places that our town offers to help pay rent and they have told me that they are out of funds. We have no place to go if we get put out, so please help me

Back in 2002 I met my partner Jonathan.  In 2005 and at the age of 23, he had a major heart attack, and was told that he would not live to see his next birthday.  3 years later he is alive, but suffers from a disease called vaseospastic disease.

Since his heart attack, we have spent many weekends in the emergency room due to his periodic spasms that he encounters.  He has not been able to work since 2005 due to his spasms, and since he doesn’t have insurance we are not able to afford the medication that he needs to minimize the number of spasms that he has.  Since we are “gay” I am not able to add him to my medical insurance, which means the hospital bills keep piling up.

This week while driving to work my car started to act up.  The transmission went out and left me stranded.   Due to all of the medical bills, I am not able to get a new transmission put into my car.  I am scared that our only form of income is going to come to an end since I drive 30 miles one way to work everyday, and I have no way to get there.I am 1 month behind on rent because of not having a car and no way to get to work.  I am affraid that soon we will receive an eviction notice and will be put out on the streets.  Can somebody PLEASE help me??
