Hello. My name is Mandi. Like a lot of low income families in portland, I am a single mother to a beautiful boy named Chevy James or CJ. We are struggling now to make endsmeet. I need some help. Not a large some of money but something to help us get rent this month and a payment to the phone company so it doesnt get shut off. I made most of it up on my own for rent. I am in need desperately for 100.00 towards rent and 70.00 towards the phone bills. $ 170.00  Here is why: My apt complex's new owner is trying to get rid of all the older residents like myself especially since I am on unemployment and struggle to make rent on time for my son and I. I pay 525.00 for rent, my unemployment is 552.00 but that's hard to do when you have a little boy who eats more then foodcard gives anymore and also diapers and everyday expenses you encounter with a toddler. My apt is moldy since i moved in, i have been told of a new unit twice and they have been given away. I have one available next month so it is urgent that i make my rent this month, get into a healthy apt in the unit across from mine and my son will get better since getting pneumonia during this last month. It has held my work search up because he was sent to the ER two nights and then had problems with various antibiotics so its been hard to get arround to much of anything this month as far as work goes.  Please I urge you I dont need much and I will even settle for 100.00 for rent if it comes down to it. Just please god please help us get out of this hellish place and on the road to self suffeciency. I am almost there but my local services are not available due to so many people out there who can wait at four a.m. to get rent assistance. I cant do that not with a one year old. :*( I also cant wait around hoping i win a lottery for rent assistance either. I call human solutions everymonth. I am a responsible caring mom, I have items to sell or trade JBL car amp, baby items/toys he's outgrown, Piaa fog light systems, dvds, pretty prom dresses in perfect condition or use towards donations if I am awarded my AIDE requested amount.

We were very comfortable, not wealthy by any means, just enough  to survive comfortably.  In 1994 we took in my father-law who had had a stoke.  I was his nurse.  taking him to the doctor giving him his medication.  He was a joy and I had promised never to put him in a nursing home.  In the next 7 years he had 2 heart attacks and 1 more stroke.  We could no longer take him to the doctors, but we had the visiting nurse come every other day.  He had become dead weight and it was getting harder and harder to take care of him

As a result, I have a herniated disc, and have 2 lower dis that started to degenerate.  When he passed away in our home, the visiting nurses and hospice had really taken over.  I miss him dearly, he was a great man.

I come to you to beg you for a cash grant so that we will not have to move until we are 62.  We have already resolved to the fact that we will sell this home, although it would break my heart, we know it's enevitable.

Just let us keep it another year and 3 months and start living without that fear.

I have been receiving e-mails of record proportions all stating that government grants are avaibe.  I've purchsed material as high as 500.00 and as low as 19.95  I am thoughly confused as to what grant or foundation that may help me.  I have written many letters to apply and always the same results.......no responce.  I'm starting to feel that this may be a scam to milk money from desperate people like me.  I've begged, pleaded, asked, and practically got on my hands and knees to pray.

Is there a worker I can talk to?  I am starting to wonder if these are all scams.  It's been over 2 years, I even tried to apply for emergency funding to save my home.  I just got out of a repay agreement which I had to pay a tremendous amont of late fees.  My husband lost his job in Jan and lost all medical benefits.  I am unable to work because of a degenerated spine.  we are in a bad situation and if we don't get some kind of financial grant, we will be homeless.  We realize we have to sell our beloved home which we had worked so very hard to achieve.  I spent 8 yearsnursing an invalid father-in-law who moved in with us to make things easier for me.  He was a very good person, but after his 2nd heart attack, and 4rd stroke, he became dead weight and when my husband was at work, I was the only one to help him and that took a toll on my health.

We are soclose to retirement that if we could have kept his job for 1 and a half years, we would not have problems.  Because my husband was contracred from Bartech and worked in the GM facility.  When he was laid off, there was no severance, and no insurance.  We started dipping into our assets 5 years ago when he took a 27 percent pay cut.  No cost of living, no bonuses, not even turkey for Thanksgiving and Ham for Christmas.  We are desperate.  Please send me a phone number of someone who is in charge of grants that deal with hardship.  We need 2 more years to retire and sell our home and downsize.  We do not have a problem with downsizing, but if we go into forclosure we lose the eqity that will make this possible.

I receively lost my job from a company that I have worked for over a year and a half .  I was a great employee, always on time, I always did above and below my job requirements. Now I am in debt with only 2 days of food in my refrigerator at a time. I have a 5 year old little boy in school. I took out two payday loans while I was working for car repairs and gas over the internet. And the companies are going to take out the money regardless if the funds are in there or not which will cause overdraft fees and other charges. I would close the account but I need it to pay bills. These online companies would not even let me make payment arrangements. I have never asked anyone for anything before. And I just so happen to stumble accross this website. I need $600.00 to pay them in full, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I am at my witts end.

4 years ago I lost my job, then my house and took a job making 8.50/hour.  Prior to this job loss, I made decent money, was generous to my friends and many charities in my community.  Never in a million years did I ever think I would be the one needing assistance.  3 years ago I decided to go back to school and study medical ultrasound.  

During this time, my bills fell behind, my credit suffered horribly and now that I have finished school and have once again gotten a good job I am still struggling to make ends meet because I am trying to get my all of my debts, that I incurred in four years, paid off.

I am a sixty-six year old single white female.  I owned my home for over ten years and planned to stay in it until my death.  On February 29, 2008, I lost my job (age discrimination).  A thirty year old white male was put in my position.  Unfortunately I live in NC, a fire at will state, and an employee can be terminated for any reason.  I was on the job for three years, never took a vacation, because my boss always found a need for me to postpone taking any extended time off.  I am computer literate and I have advanced Microsoft Office computer skills.  I feel that I was forced into retirement before I was financially ready and I have lost everything I worked my whole life to achieve.

Due to the job loss, and my advanced age, I have been unable to find employment elsewhere, so I had to voluntary foreclose on my home and file bankruptcy.  I am now basically homeless.  I put my meager possessions in storage and am now living with friends and family.  I get a small SS check but it is not sufficient to even rent a place of my own. 

If I could get financial assistance in buying a mobile home, I would have a home to live in for my remaining years.  Some days I don't feel it is even important to keep going on in the way I am now living.  I worked for forty years and now at my time of retirement, I am homeless and bankrupt due to my job loss and the inability to get another one.
