Fundraiser
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
USA

It is estimated that leukemia & its related cancers lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma strike some 106,000 Americans each year and kill over 60,000! That means there is a good chance you will know someone in your lifetime who will struggle with one of these cancers.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest voluntary health agency dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education & patient services. Over 75% of the funds received go directly to these services!

I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the quest to raise funds to support their research efforts. Through the Team in Training program, I have pledged to aid in raising funds and train to run a half marathon in honor of several local children. This is quite a feat as just 6 weeks ago I wasn't even running and now I am up to 8miles!

Research works! In forty years the survival rate of children has increased to 85% from only 5% for leukemia! Today, over 76% of children with Hodgkin’s disease survive!

Let’s band together to ensure the other 15% of children with Leukemia and 24% of children with Hodgkin’s disease survive! YOU CAN HELP through donations!!!

Please see the website set up for donations:

Be Someone's Angel

I am writing on behalf of my brother Andrew and his family. For the past few years, his family has encountered nothing but hardships. It seems like the harder they work the more in debt they become. Just recently Andrew was diagnosed with bone marrow disease, and unfortunately, his insurance cut him completely off from aid. Also, the state of New York considers him diasabled, which makes it very difficult for Andrew to apply for aide, as well as jobs. In fact, Andrew racked up  very pricy hospital bills because he had to go to the emergency countless times dues to pain, black outs, and severe fevers. Not to mention the cost of prescription drugs. No one should have to live life this way, especially not since aid is readily available in the U.S. Furthermore, Andrew had no choice but to file for bankruptcy due to his inability to work or perform tasks for money. Months after the completion of the bankruptcy, his wife Amanda was diagnosed with cancer( Leukemia), and his son, only four years old, has been very ill. I do not know what to do. I have tried almost everything that I could to try and raise money for my brother and his family. I even went to the extent and wrote Oprah a letter in hopes that she would feel my pain and answer me.  Of course, nothing seemed to work. I do not want my brother and his family to continue life collecting unpaid hospital bills. This should not be happening in America. I served in the armed forces for three years, protected my country and the people. All I pray and ask for, is that the government returns the favor and helps bring hope back into my brother and his families lives. Please, tell me what I should do or what I can do.

Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

I am training for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco this October with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training (TNT).  Team in Training is a National Organization that raises funds while training for and competing in marathons globally.  I am training in honor of one of my very good friend's father's, Neil Cuthbertson, who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.

Any amount that you donate will get me one step closer to my goal of raising $3900, and will get the society one step closer to their goal of finding a cure and helping those who are affected by blood born cancers!

You can visit my official fundraising page online HERE to make your TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation.  This page is run by the society and all funds donated through this link go DIRECTLY to the society, so you can rest assured your money is safe and is being used for what you are intending it to be used for.

For businesses that would like to donate: I will be wearing the name/logo of any business who donates more than $500; In addition, the business who makes the LARGEST donation: I will wear your company's hat/visor for training, to fundraising events, and on RACE DAY!!

I'd like to thank you in advance for your help!

Well, I am a Christian.  I am a mom to 2 boys they are 4 and 1.  I am married, we have been for almost 6 years!  I am learning that life is too short and goes too fast and no matter how hard to stop the roller coaster we cannot.  I have learned that there is good in everyone, and I try to see it.  I put everyone else in front of me, which I got from my parents.  I love my family and my friends.  I love helping others.  I love making people smile, no matter how small the jesture, you can make the difference.  I have learned to be humble through this and patience.  I have learned how strong my faith is and even though it seems to be tested a little more everyday I love Christ and I plan to just get stronger.

Dental work

Hi, we are a family of 6.  Our son has had cancer for the last three years and has two  more years of treatment.  My husband and I have had to put our much needed dental care on hold.  We are now at a point that it is absolutly nessessary, but we still cannot afford all that needs to be done.  If anyone knows a way to get free dental care., very discounted or even payment plans, that would be great!

It has been so hard, and now we have this added stress of our teeth.  You can follow our journey with our son at www.caringbridge.org/co/keegan.

Thank you so much,

Audra

2007 Has Been Trying, and I am Trying to turn it around, I need help!

2007 started a little early this year.  On Dec. 23 my dad went into the hospital where he was diagnosed with MDS.  Please know I am 26, married and have 2 children.  My husband and I lost our home in April, and we are now renting from a family member.  In April, my dad's MDS turned into leukemia.  He has a lot of odds against him and we are all praying for a miracle.  In the meantime, my mom and dad were helping us with utilities and such as I lost my job because of everything going on, and they said I was just not preforming, I was doing the best that I could.  I have started an e-bay business that I pray takes off and my husband who still works full time is also starting a residential remodeling business on the side.  Of course we have no start up money so it is VERY slow going.  Here is the problem that I have right now, we are behind on rent and about to lose this place and we will have no where to go, I am scared.  My children are 4 and 1.  We are also behind on utilities and they plan on cutting things off starting next week.  We are using every penny that comes in to pay something towards our bills but things just continue to pile up.  We have asked family and friends for help and we have prayed and prayed and now I am doing the last thing I ever thought I would do and that is telling the world.  I know that there are people out there who want to help, I just hope someone can help us.  We do not need much, in comparision.  We need 2192.00 to get caught up on everything which will help us so much.  They have given my dad less than 6 months and I want to be able to enjoy the precious time, not worry about everything.  Thank you for listening and may God Bless you all.  Please know that I will add you to my prayer list and I will remember your thoughts and generosity.

Mother of 2 daughters with Neurofibromatosis who has also had to contend with cancer: leukemia.
Help with expenses incurred by medical needs

We are a family of 4 who in the last 10 years have been through enough for several families. In 1997 our daughter (Leah) was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL). It was devastating. At first the cancer wasn't responding to chemotherapy. Then finally 2 wks into treatment it went into clinical remission. We suffered through hospitalizations and hundreds of chemo treatments with her. We are happy to say the cancer is still in remission and we just had a clean check-up on Aug 30, 2007. I know it doesn't sound like we are in such a bad time, but we had many frightening experiences along the way that cost more than we have. Leah almost died 3 times. She had a unrinary tract problem that was feared to be cancer, but was not. (It is damage due to the strong chemo she was given because it didn't initially respond). Our youngest daughter (Lyndsea) also had a cancer scare. She had a high fever so I took her to the doctor. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong with her so she ran some tests. She had blood in her urine. (micro) We were still not well enough mentally to have another round with cancer. It cleared up. The dr. said it was probably a fall that caused it. We've had many other terrible experiences including both of our girls being diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF). We have many expenses that we cannot afford. Please help. Thank you Gentry

Comment: I am worried rather wondering...
Note: This aidpage was started as a comment on "Home page of In Training"

I am worried rather wondering about this site. You just never know these days i am having problems of my own though I think every family goes through problems rich or poor but their is always someone out there wanting to help. I have read some of the stuff on this website. My heart goes out to all of you .But I am ashamed to post my problems to the public money situtions of course. If someone could let me know more about this site or does anyone get a respond from anyone wanting to help? I was just wondering.
Leukemia is Expensive!!

First off, this isn't about me..... or for me. I have a talented 25 year old Daughter, Melissa. Who just Graduated from college, got her first childrens book published, which she wrote and Illustrated, and she is supposed to illustrate 3 more. Being Indepent, just starting her career, and repaying student loans should have been enough for any 25 year old to deal with. But, she was diagnosed with a very rare form of Leukemia in May. She is currently in the Hospital for her 3rd chemotherapy regiment ( at about $150K per) and the next step is a Bone Marrow transplant, which we are told is Estimated at approximately $429,000 at this point. We have made the Medical arrangements at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance ( The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Univ. Of Washington Medical Center) And to be Honest, I'm strapped, She's Strapped and I'm looking for help. I have no Idea where to get a quick 1/2 million dollars..... and never thought I'd need to.

I just want to get the word out... $5 from a hundred thousand people or $50 from ten thousand people or $500 from a thousand people, anything is possible......

Charitable Organizations, Philanthropists, the General Public, or Corporations are all possibilities, but I don't even know where to start, and that's why I'm here. Getting help would be wonderful, but the stress relief of just venting helps too.

We are desperate....Please Help Us and Our Children

We are in need for Christmas. I have 2 sons 18 and 16 both have health
problems. The oldest has spinal disease and the youngest has leukemia.
My husband just had surgery and is out of work for 6 weeks(with no
pay). What little money we had went to medical bills and to pay some
of the bills that we have. That leaves us with nothing for Christmas
or Food. Please if you can help us we would be so eternally grateful.
Husband will go back to work towards end of December. We have tried
for help in our area but they have already filled all of the holiday
slots. Please if you can help us let us know. Thank You.

The Youngest son doesn't really get out much because he might get a virus or cold and bring his immune system down even more.  He wants a PS3 or Wii with games, comicbooks, The Spiderwick Chronicles 2-through present book available, giftcards(to order online)and an mp3 player.  The oldest wants a PS3, giftcards, pay as you go cellphone, and he wants a remote control airplane.
