It is estimated that leukemia & its related cancers lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma strike some 106,000 Americans each year and kill over 60,000! That means there is a good chance you will know someone in your lifetime who will struggle with one of these cancers.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest voluntary health agency dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education & patient services. Over 75% of the funds received go directly to these services!

I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the quest to raise funds to support their research efforts. Through the Team in Training program, I have pledged to aid in raising funds and train to run a half marathon in honor of several local children. This is quite a feat as just 6 weeks ago I wasn't even running and now I am up to 8miles!

Research works! In forty years the survival rate of children has increased to 85% from only 5% for leukemia! Today, over 76% of children with Hodgkin’s disease survive!

Let’s band together to ensure the other 15% of children with Leukemia and 24% of children with Hodgkin’s disease survive! YOU CAN HELP through donations!!!

Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

I am training for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco this October with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training (TNT).  Team in Training is a National Organization that raises funds while training for and competing in marathons globally.  I am training in honor of one of my very good friend's father's, Neil Cuthbertson, who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.

Any amount that you donate will get me one step closer to my goal of raising $3900, and will get the society one step closer to their goal of finding a cure and helping those who are affected by blood born cancers!

You can visit my official fundraising page online HERE to make your TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation.  This page is run by the society and all funds donated through this link go DIRECTLY to the society, so you can rest assured your money is safe and is being used for what you are intending it to be used for.

For businesses that would like to donate: I will be wearing the name/logo of any business who donates more than $500; In addition, the business who makes the LARGEST donation: I will wear your company's hat/visor for training, to fundraising events, and on RACE DAY!!

I'd like to thank you in advance for your help!

I am writing to you in hopes that some how this story will get the attention it needs to help a family who is desperately in need of help fast & who is literally dying. My cousin and her husband have been battling cancer for 2 yrs now. Their story is full of heartache, struggle, and unique courage and strength. Allison Hoskins my cousin & Jeff were high school sweethearts. They married and have 3 beautiful children Preston, Parker, & Bailey. In the summer of 2006 Jeff was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was able to beat it and went into remission in January 2007. This family fought this battle hard. The incredible thing was the unique optimism, hope & strength they had. It was amazing. Then in June 2007 Allison was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She endured 6 months of Chemotherapy and went into remission January 2008. Unbelievably, they continued to be strong & Optimistic. Even when Allison was extremely sick she always had a smile for you and never once complained. We were all ecstatic and considered are prayers answered.  Now comes the biggest blow of all. When Allison went for her 3 month check up last month they told her some devastating news. Her cancer was back and this time it had spread to 3 of her precious organs. It is in her kidneys, lungs & liver. She just turned 30 in February and she & Jeff had such big plans to get start living life to its fullest again. This family is so unbelievably kind, generous, & full of hope. WHY THEM!!! We all keep asking. Allison just gave life to another family in 2006 by being a surrogate mother and now cancer wants to take her away from us. This is when the financial issue comes in. Right now Allison can only receive one treatment of Chemo here in Wichita. Her insurance will only pay for her go to the Mayo Clinic. She went there last week for here first consultation but can't receive treatment until her insurance approves it. How crazy in the world we live in today that you can be told your dying quickly and we may be able to help but you will have wait a month to get help because of your insurance. This infuriates me to no end. I can not stand by and watch her surcome to this vicious disease and do nothing. We don't only need financial help we need prayers. Because of the type of cancer she has and it returning so quickly. Her only chance for survival is a bone marrow transplant.  Insurance may not cover this. The cost for the procedure is anywhere between $200,000-250,000. She will have to be at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota for 3 Months. Unable to see her children, husband, family, or friends that have helped her overcome this battle before. Jeff can only take 2 weeks of work. They don't have much money and really need help NOW!!!!They are residents and graduates of Goddard.  Jeff works at Sam’s club and the children attend Goddard schools. My hope from this email is to make the people aware of their story and hopefully raise enough money & prayers to help this family survive & beat cancer once again. I hope there is a doctor somewhere who may have another suggestion or option for Allison and here family. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I beg you from the bottom of my heart to bring some attention to their story and help this struggling beautiful family get some help.Jeff needs his wife. Preston, Parker, & Bayley need their mom. My aunt needs her only daughter. As for the rest of her family and friends we need Allison. Her smiling face and positive attitude is so infectious. She can't be taken from this world so soon. God forbid that she is, her family needs to be taken care of. If Jeff's Leukemia were to come back what would these children do???? We need your help and we need it fast. We don't have much time as this cancer is rapidly spreading throughout Allison body. There is a website that has been set up to tell their story, update us on her condition, and has place for donations. It is www.hope4thehoskins@blogspot.com. Please go their and read their story and see their pictures. If everyone in Wichita and the surrounding areas could donate a dollar we could start here treatment immediately!Any response would greatly appreciated!Sincerely- Michelle Schutz316-616-4250316-733-7749Michelleschutz@msn.com
