(updated May 12, 2008)

I have been away from Aidpage, but not completely out of the picture. What I have I been up to?

I had been making many attempts to still get the word out about what I am doing, but I had not been received well at a couple places:

  • Myspace kicked me off four times. The fourth time, I managed to keep the page running for a few months, and I logged in only to discover that I was removed once again. I am not sure what their reasoning was. It was a description of how I was helping others. I had helped many families through that page so it was very disappointing, and I lost track of people in line to receive help.
  • I posted a page on Squidoo.com. and that page, too was removed after receiving a lot of criticism from members there. I wasnt asking for money; only describing how I was helping others. Apparently I seemed a little too good to be true or people just didnt believe me.

I HAVE been accepted with open arms at WishUponAHero.com. I am very active there under the name 'The Empty Hanger' Here is how I have helped and currently help others. To date, I have granted over 20 wishes, and more that is not tallied on the site.

  • Sending cards for birthdays, encouragement, friendship, sympathy. That just costs a stamp!
  • Offering advice on situations
  • Sending books (via media mail)
  • Sending spiritual literature (I returned to church in January accepting Jesus into my life)
  • Sending small packages of clothes
  • Sending coupons
  • Sending school supplies
  • Sending my old eyeglass frames to woman who cannot afford new ones. (current)
  • Workiing on a HUGE giveaway starting May 1st for WUAH. (shipping covered by anonymous donor)

OTHER CHANGES

  • 'The Empty Hanger' has been scaled back to a local operation. It was a difficult decision. Aside from what I do above, I still manage to provide packages of good usable clothing to persons in need. I find them at the local food pantry mostly, and word of mouth. Someone will email me at projectemptyhanger@mail2me.com, and we arrange a mutual public meeting place for the person's safety and mine. Its worked out pretty well, and I bypass shipping costs altogether. I do ask a lot of questions beforhand, because my genorisity has been taken advantage of on several occasions, and it is how I screen people. I find that those that are evasive are not being honest with me.
  • I am considering turning over 'The Empty Hanger' as an outreach project at my church.

ADVOCACY

  • Alzheimer's Awareness My dad passed away from the disease January 21st, 2008. He was diagnosed in 2003, and we watched this independant and strong man fight for a long time until we had to place him in a nursing home in 2006. It wiped us out financially and emotionally. I've currently been put into a position to help my mom who lost his pension (because she was not married to him when he retired). I use his likeness in many ways to help educate others about Alzheimer's. I am beginning an initiative for leglislation so that no other families should be forced into poverty for making the decision to place a totall dependant loved one into long-term care. You can view a video I made by visiting the following link: Alzheimer's Video
  • NEW! I also have changed my dad's tribute page to one of an Alzheimer's Awareness subject matter. It is called: Alzheimer's: Know More. I have also created tshirts and other merchandice to raise funds to donate to my local Alzheimer's association.
  • Go to the tribute page.

If your family is affected by this disease and need some advice or just to talk, please email me at projectemptyhanger@mail2me.com, and put 'Alzheimers' in the subject line.

Thanks

Elaine, for all your help and support to 'The Empty Hanger'

Everyone here who reads and takes interest in my little endeavor!

I'm having a rummage sale! (Updated May 12th)

Locally, my mobile home community is having a rummage sale at the beginning of June. I am hoping to raise enough money on my own so that I can use some of the proceeds to send out a few more packages. My family has been busily cleaning out the house and garage, and wow the treasures that we accumulate in a year.

If you live in the Northwest Indiana area, and are interested in learning more about my community's rummage sale, please don't hesistate to ask. I will be offering discounts to my local friends at Wish Upon A Hero, and I am offering the same here on Aidpages. For details, please ask.

I like to do volunteer work and help with children that lack basic needs.  I love children, but have none of my own.  I have helped out several single parent familes around the holidays for the past few years.  I've found that some families need ongoing help all year and not just at the holiday season.  I have been a public school employee for 22 years, and serve on a local church board.  I prefer to help someone directly without going through an organization.  I've done volunteer work before for organizations and was surprised at how much of the donated funding was spent on administrative expenses, and how little went to the recipients.   I really like the concept of Aidpage.

I am an unemployed 26 year old mother of a 7 year old child. I would like to go back to school because now an associates degree is not enought to live off of in the state of NY. Unfortunately due to my previous employer the company downsized and I was laid off. since then I have tried to search for employment on my own but the cost became to expensive. Now I had to apply for welfare and the employment search assistance program allows me to sit from 9-5 with nothing to do. They will not allow me to go to school in the am hours becuase its unfair to them that they have to work and go to school. I would go to school at night but now my situation turns in to a babysitting issue. I also feel a single mother she be able to be there for her child in the pm hours to help her child better her self in school. Now I am left emptyless and no where to turn .. I have no family I was a orphan of the state sice the age 7 to the age 19. and then released because I was considered an adult and not a child. I am struggling to pay rent by staying with my abusive exboyfriend and living as a prisioner in my home. All I want is my life back. A chance to better my self and become self sufficient so that I will not be classified as another statistic

Still in need of help!  Dealing with Financial troubles badly!  our home is in forclosure and were about to lose everything!  Can't believe that I have been looking for help since Last year to keep from getting this way, and nothing but scammer after scammer gets in touch with me!  there doesn't seem to be anyone out there anymore that has a soul that would or even could help anyone that is having trouble anymore.  been working on getting things caught up but still falling behind with everrything going up all the time.  just about can live or raise a family!  want has this world gotten too.  it's a shame!  I pray all the time that things get better and so far nothing is working right for me.  I have faith and my heart keeps telling me that things are going to get better, but I hope I'm not trying to raise a family in the streets by the time that this would come true.  God Bless all of US!

Hi,

My name is Ashley, i'm 20 years old, I live with my mom and my younger sister who is 18. We desperately need help. I almost feel ashamed for even being on this site and asking, and I feel bad because that there are so many others out there that have worse situations.

My family has never had much money, but until I was 15 we survived. When I was 15 my dad died, and we were left to fend for ourselves. I started working eight days after the law said it was legal...eight days after I turned 14. After my dad died I worked as much as possible. My sister started work young as well. My mom hopped from job to job trying to find the best one for us. The past couple of years she has been sick on and off due to her many health problems. Recently, the past two months, she has been completely off work due to kidney stones putting her in and out of the hospital and endless surgeries (which we have no insurance for, and we are currently at around $30,000 bills). I work in retail and make hardly anything. My sister does as well, and she is still in high school. I am in school as well at a community college.

We are about to lose our house. My sister gets Social Security from when my dad died, until just today we found out they wanted to cut it off. Social Security is -the- only thing keeping us afloat right now.

We need help bad, and right away. The local churches won't help us. We've tried looking so many places. I just don't know what to do.

If anyone can think of anything or can do anything, our appreciation would not be measureable....

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this. Thank you so much....

Ashley

I'm trying to sell some art to raise food funds! I'm homeless. I've lived in my RV/Studio for 10 years.
I have a Pop Art Formula of cat faced celebrities, done in marker on magazine and finished in found frames.
I think a good level of support would be a $10 donation per Artwork.

I've been shown in some very prestigious places despite my living situation (read, famous and valuable). I THANK YOU for your support.

I am so tired. I have had such a horrible life, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I am 34 but I feel like I'm 94. I have been on Social Security Disability. I suffer from Major Depression, General Anxiety Disorder, Diabetes, Hypothyroidism, Anemia, Sleep Apnea, High Cholesterol, Diabetes Retinopathy, Infertility and Advance Periodontal disease. I had a stroke a year ago, the side effects are some stiffness in my thigh and short term memory loss. I've been told I will be completely blind in the next couple of years from the retinopathy. I know that things could be worse. I was told I will not receive additional benefits when it does happen. Social security isn't enough to even cover rent. I have recently gotten divorced and now I am being evicted by my ex husband. My parents are both deceased and I don't have any siblings. I did not know my Mother or her family, Both of my parents died when I was young. The only family members I do have are struggling themselves. I slept in my car three years ago, when I had no place to stay. I've applied for section 8 housing but I've been told since I don't have any children, the wait is three years. I can't afford to live anymore. I don't make enough money to qualify for low income housing. I am so sad and I keep getting the run around from agencies. I really need help. I hope there are some resources available to help me. Please email me if you know of anyone able to help.

Thank you!

Barbara

My name is Dina Rae I am 25 years old and I was preganant when I got behind on my bills and I got my car repossessed because I couldnt work at the time, because of early contractions and was forced to stay home. Im a single mother.  After I had my baby I had a hard time trying to stand up and get out of bed and I later found out that I have severe Rheummatoid Arthritis. Im still behind on all my bills around 4,900.00.  Its been 2 years and I have lost my home and car.  My credit is totally ruined.  It is good I have family to stay with for the time being.  I have so much pain and havent been able to work.  I have no job and no hope what so ever. Ive been going to free counseling for depression.  I tried to get on SSI and have been denied, but I will try again after I get more X-Rays done.  If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.  Me and my daughter Evangelise Lorelei would be so happy.  I struggle just trying to get pampers for her every month.  Her father has been abscent since she was 4 months old.  I know you cant really expect for some kind of miracle to happen and I dont know how this is going to work out for me but oh well I will try anyways.  I also find that talking about things helps alot too.
